Dylan Grimes JDM

By far his best game for 18 months. Tremendous one grab game, everything was done with conviction at pace.

Saw the potential of 2012 revisited. Not sure how good he can be but as the third back, he is a delight.

People just under rate injuries. He missed the best part of two years, and it has taken a while to get fit and get his confidence back.

yeah. I posted 3 months ago that just getting through this season without doing his hammy would be a major win for Grimesy and that we probably wouldn't see the best of him again until 2015. I was wrong because he was sensational yesterday.

He is massively important to our backline because he gives it flexibility in the same way Fletcher did for Essendon for so long. Have a tall who can play small is a key these days.

Confidence is BACK.. In his body, in his ability, in his belief that he is at AGL standard. One grab marking, closing speed, backing himself...

Just been a gradual low key grind. A massive bonus having Grimes our 3rd tall defender.

A massive game against the Swans and that will cap off a solid year.

When he took off from half-back in the first quarter, knocked the ball past the Saints player, ran on, delivered, ran on again, received and handed off to Jack, I had to double-check and make sure it wasn't Lids.

For the first time used his pace as an offensive weapon, and woah!

Ever since the swans game at the G a few yrs ago I thought that we may have just unearthed our very own Bruce Doull. Now needs to take his game to the next level.

It will be fun to see him running Goodes off his feet. Goodes is quick but has lost fitness in recent times. If Goodes is buggered after 4-5k in the first q, it will make Grimes' job a lot easier.

He is bloody quick. I think he was top 5 at his draft combine for the 3 second sprint from memory.

Top game against Swans & you are making me eat humble pie due to my previous threads. Eat Em Alive Tiger.

I gave Grimes 1 vote for the game against Sydney.

Absolutely smashed Goodes in the first half and played it very smart.

Although he didn't rack up the possession count he was involved in some very smart and deft touches/taps to advantage that thwarted numerous Sydney movements up fwd.

Played the conditions very well.

Grimesy (or Batchelor) need to take the next step. I reckon they should watch game tapes of the most underrated player in the comp, Tom Jonas.

Hard, quick, reads the ball well, spoils, can play tall and small and has now begun to rebound.

That's what Grimesy and Batchelor need to be doing, providing more drive from their kicking and intercept marks a la Jonas did on the weekend.

Was like a rabbit in the headlights against Port. They ran rings around him. Don't think Ive ever seen him made to look so pedestrian.

I saw it quite differently ToO, thought he was one of the few who managed to work into the game pretty well and could hold his head high.

Maybe - but what hope does a rabbit have if the headlights are three cars wide and the poor bunny is stuck in the middle lane.

Agree Grimes & Houli the only defenders who could hold their heads high after Sundays game. Batchelor, Chaplin and Morris were woeful and Rance and Flossy were well beaten.

I would accept that Flossy was a bit of a headless chicken at times but at stages he did some telling work. Check to replays and you will see that Rance was trying to keep our defence together whilst at times trying to do two other defenders work because others had gone missing. Not his best game but not the worst on the park by a long shot.
Grimes did some good work but also went missing at times. However, over the last three or four games he has shown some rebound as well as good defending so things are looking up for him

I actually thought that Grimes played okay. Badly need a couple of running defenders with good skills though. Glaring weakness.

Similar to last year's final.

In fact, many of our players, defenders especially, have been shown up in both finals for being fumbly and panicky under the increased pressure.

Biggest disappointment IMO is Chaplin, who was supposed to bring a cool head for situations like this but has been anything but.

Biggest hurdle this year for grimes was not getting injured and he achieved that , just a toe I think at one stage.

Full preseason , get really fit and we will hopefully see the grimes we expected in 2015.

x2. Really needed at least one full season without suffering a serious injury.
