I could imagine the gold coast lifestyle would be a big attraction, and pave the way for a permanent move up there.

He must feel trapped in Melbourne. I would fully understand why he would move for a 2 year contract to finish his career.

Whatever happens it will be a relief when it's over. I can't help think that it is becoming a distraction and I sometimes wonder how it affects the younger players.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if he went north, and his form wasn't great, there would be constant speculation around that. Essentially the press will only leave the poor bugger alone when he has retired.

If the move to the GC is on, then it's a huge gamble.

If he wins a flag with them, it will be confirmation from everyone as the greatest player in modern history.

If he performs like he has this year and they don't win finals, then it will somewhat tarnish his his incredible CV.

Only playing home games would be a bad look and possibly unsettle the team. This is not Dusty circa 2017-2020 we're talking about.
Yeh, older followers would remember the GA snr circus that surrounded his career. Felt like there was so much speculation every year about if he was playing, would he be at training etc etc. It appeared he played under different rules to the rest of the team. I don't doubt this played a part in them not winning any flags whilst he was there. I have little doubt his special treatment had an impact on some of the other players.

Doubt any side would allow a guy to play half the games, no matter how good he was.

I've been blown away by the media antics on this.
Nothing else matches this, it's a circus!

I desperately want him to stay so I/we can "bird" everyone.
Gotta get something out of this Year.

Gaddy Loin chop.
Theo X (he used to hate that on SEN with Mark Allen when callers rang through and called him that.)
Mince.
No Cluer.
Jabba the Hutch.
Vol Kane Oh.

And any other flog "news breakers" beating themselves into a frenzy over our Dusty.

"gold coast lifestyle" ?

it's an over-crowded white ghetto... but sure, that is appealing to some ...

If Duz goes there, then how about fair trade? Dimma the Divorcer can give us some good players. Why the hell are we all of a sudden their carers????
Well we’ve taken care of a couple of their castoffs. Lynch and Prestia. We’ve given them BEllis, CEllis, Mabs, Towner?, who else?
We’ve looked after them fairly well over the years. Quid pro quo you bastards

Dimma, Grigg, Rance, Hayden Hill (Football Manager) and also Mark Opie (Team Manager)

I get the feeling after Ooze's press conference that Dusty is on the way out. Moving time lines and saying we're not asking him to commit etc. Ooze isn't the most fluent media performer, so I could have misread, but it wasn't convincing to me. I left thinking he and Baker are gone.
I'm trying to only think about our next premiership, and I know No. 3 won't be there. But maybe staying 12 months with some younger midfielders, he could influence it.
Or he could get another club to carry him to finals, then he could win another Gary Ayers and Norm Smith. Cement his legacy.
Either way, I'm over the topic and 2024, our annus horribilus.

I couldn't believe the Chimp suggested that GC was a "better place to live". WTF ?

You've changed Chimp....you've changed man.

All the rain and humidity up there has liquefied his brain. Wake up to yourself Chimp !

I get why people would say money is not a factor but the alternative view is that $600k x 2 is still $1.2 million ( less tax and his fee to the merkin) that he wouldn't get by not playing. Dusty is 33 not 63 and he most probably has one chance in his life to make money and wants to maximise it. I wouldn't blame him for that.

It depends on what Richmond offers him
Yes you could say the same if he was offered even $400k x 2, it's still money. I was a little more focused on what sort of money qualify Tigers for a compensation pick. I say no if it's $600k. But others are saying he could be paid majority of his salary as ambassador role that sits outside salary cap (I think it can be over $1mill for up to 6 players in ambassador roles) and then you'd have to ask yourself is the AFL bankrolling that as Gold Coast are LOSING money each year and couldn't possibly afford it themselves.

Agree. Too much Brayshaw, Spitty Watson and Duckwood influence.....then again, he lives in Bummerland with wife and kids!!

Same here, but who cares. It's obvious Duz is cooked. I'll have a good laugh if he keep getting injured with them.

Time to build the Next Gen.

And I imagine Dusty wouldn't give a cr@p about his media-driven 'tarnished' CV. We know Dusty.

I wonder how much talk about Dusty going to GC is from Dimma and how keen the club actually are. Does he think they are that close to a flag? Really? It smacks of hubris.

Anyway as The_General notes above, if he and Baker are as good as gone it presents the club with a good opportunity to re-stump, re-wire and re-plumb.

And whether they stay or go we settle in for a good long time on the bottom rungs of the ladder.

I think different people read what people say in different ways.
My take was that he genuinely didn’t know.
