According to Jake Niall on AFL Today, St Kilda have ruled themselves out of making an offer for Dusty.
They will be going offer Nat Fyfe instead.
I'd have been concerned if Dusty's boyhood club had come in with an offer as they are set to play finals for the next few years. It would have been tempting.
Put yourself in Dusty's shoes and imagine Richmond making a big offer for you. I'd be seriously considering it and very likely to take the offer.

The Niall article says a lot about the Dusty situation. St Kilda clearly have the cap space to pay Dusty what he wants. The fact that they have publicly shot down the notion of chasing Dusty tells me that they think it's a waste of time. They will solely focus on Fyfe and throw everything at him.

It's the best sign yet that he is staying. Follow the money and where it's going. As for Collingwood, they become less attractive every day and I highly doubt they have the cap space. Between Treloar, Wells and Mayne you have about 2 million tied up. The cap will be 12 millionish. Chuck another 1 million in for Dusty and you are stretching things.
Reeks of desperation. Collingwood are getting a very Richmond under Spud Frawley vibe about them.

But I'm more confident than ever that he stays.

I'd be shocked if Dusty left. He feels at home at Richmond, it's his family. Now that his old man has been shipped back to the land of the nervous sheep, the RFC family bond would be even stronger.

Hey Easy, there's much to be said for being "a bogan-hippy farmer".
Such entities proudly exist in Central Victoria also.
Cheers

strangely enough, thats where I laid down the bogan neurology BT.

I married into hippy up Byron way.

I reckon Dusty has strong bogan-hippy tendencies.

If I'm not mistaken, the fact is Dusty has put contract talks off until the end of the season.

A reporter directly asked Dimma "Are you confident he’ll be there next year?" and his reply was to pause, take a breath, and say “I’d love to think I’m confident, I think we’re a good match”.

He didn’t answer the question, he gave a politician's yes. "Will Dusty be at Richmond next year?" > "I think we’re a good match". He was always emphatic with our other big names.

However, the key difference between Dusty and Ablett/Franklin/Dangerfield is his transparent touring of the GWS facility to increase his contract price at Richmond. Since we can match any offer, that would suggest his strategy is to fake he's leaving in order to snare an additional 100K on his 5 year contract. That's like being paid half a million dollars to play the free agency game for a season. Why not? It could take him 10 years to earn that much after he retires.

If his strategy isn't a repeat of the GWS fiasco, he's probably gone.

I say 'probably' because there's also a small chance he's literally trying to extract every last cent he possibly can and is willing to go to the highest bidder. That's treating the game as a pure business, and he seems far more confident and adaptable to a new club these days.

Our reaction is pretty simple. We underperform, we can agree to let him go for a nice little rebuild package to combine with our current 2 x first rounders and new coach. It would be like the 2004 draft all over again. Or we do perform, and we can pay up or call his bluff. Simple as that IMO.

I'm expecting Dusty to go to the highest bidder and for Richmond to be reluctant to break our salary strategy unless we're top 4. He's gone unless we think there's a premiership in it for us.

"If he signs at Richmond, he'll stay, otherwise he is leaving"

No, wait - im getting Ralphy and parrot mixed up

Not sure he'll stay or go.
I love watching him, and really hope he stays. If he doesn't though, I'm not gonna get bent out of shape. We'll get a few picks for him, if we don't try re-sign him and force him to stay.

We've put tons of effort into him, stuck by him through all the crap, give him leave to go see his dad. If he walks, it'll be a slap in the face for all we've done to support him. I won't want that type of player wearing a gold sash.

This is garbage.

If he leaves it is because doesn't believe in the direction the club is going, and who could blame him. Why should he sacrifice income to guarantee that he WON"T win a premiership with Richmond.

If he leaves it Dimma's fault for wasting Dusty's career, plain and simple.

Sadly I expect Dimma to be sacked mid season and Dusty gone by years end as well.

Get ready for another rebuild

My view is the enemy here is Ralph Carr. Appreciate he is Dusty's manager but he seems the kinda bloke that is only in it for what he can get from it.. ie: he will definatley draw it all out till the last minute so his cut will be bigger in the end not necessarily who is the best fit for Dusty.

If Dusty leaves it could simply be because he wants maximum $$$$, could be because he wants to play for a more successful team, hates the game plan, or has been convinced by his manager and others that this is the go.

If he goes we'll get a decent compensation.

My gut tells me he'll stay. He loves the club and the supporters love him.

Talk about garbage!

Get a grip!

No other player has ever left a club? Many champion's of the game don't have premierships as part of their achievements! Doesn't mean they have wasted their careers! These things happened in sport before Hardwick and will happen after Hardwick. Life has no guarantee!

Your hate directed towards Hardwick is ridiculous!

As with any player who does so, there's no doubt a selfish aspect to Martin choosing to wait until seasons end before re-signing.
He should cop some criticism for that as some just put it to bed early and get on with it to avoid speculation.
It will be a topic that keeps coming up during the year whether we like it or not.
Hopefully the distraction is minimal but the longer it goes on history shows he may be headed elsewhere.

I reckon once the new Players deal is announced we'll see a few big names, including Dusty, sign.

Dusty would be foolish to sign before the new deal is agreed.

Dont think its selfish. I dont like it but as you pointed out he will be looking to cash in this time. By years end he could be a top 3 player in comp. He is maximising his worth and so he should.

Saying that its a high stakes game. Could shatter his leg like brown.
Fwiw i think he will stay a tiger.
