Dustin Martin

He's going ok, but the thing is, if he's not a game winner for us anymore then we don't really have anyone else who is. Shai certainly hasn't been that this year.
I’m actually finding shais form more disappointing to be honest ,

I guess because dusty has already delivered to the club in spades, if his best is behind him, that is unfortunate but is the nature of sport ,

But shai , his time is now, or should be

Correct
Shai isn’t reading the game very well at the present . Work rate isn’t as good it should be as doesn’t get into space or where the ball is . Interesting

It wasn't far off being an elite performance but most things he did last night were 'almost'.

He really tried to win us the game. Once those things he did were coming off & he was the game breaker but they weren't last night.

Glass half full he was creating the chances. Glass half empty he's in decline.

Next few weeks will be interesting for Dusty.

Said the same thing last night. Those shots were going through for him in the past.

So this, I don’t know if he’s building into form or this is as good as he gets now.

He was good..but because we soo use to him being superman.
Normal isn't acceptable.
I would like to know if he is really over the kidney injury.
He can't kick long anymore.

if that shot from the boundary hadn't hit the post... was like the one against hawthorn in a final a few years ago. great game by Dustin. he was so close to having a perfect game. (1.3 and one out of bounds could have easily been 4.1)... as someone here mentioned earlier; he's building and it was an almost night. keep doing what you do Dustin!

Dees version of 2017-2020 Dustin vs. 2023 Dustin stats comparison from last night.... that last number is Goal Assists; so if the 1.3 (compared to 0.0) becomes 3.1; then the GA is the same as Petracca and the match result might have been different and all would be saying Dustin is back.

Christian Petracca .... 0 0 26 15 11 7 5 0 3 609 3

Dustin Martin……........ 1 3 25 16 9 2 3 0 2 579 0

I think we should be more excited by that last goal - at the end of the match, he had some power. Yes he is building

come on he is absolutely not fit!!! blowing as hard as i have ever seen him. WTF is going on down at the club. he may not be as fast as before but not running out quarters is an absolute disgrace.

Biggest problem I see is he has no power by foot anymore. I honestly don't think he can kick a drop punt 45 metres. I think he tried to kick a torp right on the 50 line in one game this season. What's with that? Surely your power by foot isnt affected by age?

Dusty at 80% of superstar is Dusty the mere mortal when it comes to AFL level footy. Was very much an almost game from the Dusty one last night and hopefully a sign that he's starting to find some game form after the last year and a bit.
Definitely of the belief that Dusty should be playing at least a 50 / 50 mix of mid forward, preferably a 60 / 40 mix. Don't need him to be the inside ball hunter, that's for Prestygiocomo, Tarrantino n Grasshopper to play with the likes of Dusty n Shai hovering for a bit of one out from the inside space to work and create from.

Its 1 reason I think he's been carrying a hip complaint.

But - we really do judge Dusty harshly. He played well last night but yes he's past his best, but he's still a good AFL player, he's just not a great anymore. He still does things that others dream of doing. 25 touches, 7 SI's, 1.3 and nearly 600m gained. In most players books that would regarded as a good game, but we get people saying he's cooked etc after that. Sure he's not the brute he once was, but he is nearly 32, surely no-one expects him to still be the player he was from 2017-2020.

Agree, midfield mix is important for both them as players but more importantly for us as a team. More Shai and Dusty in the middle means good things.

I agree with you. will only get better, this will allow the others to play better too. His goal was a classic Dusty! even on the boundary line shot that hit the post. That's a sign for me he is Building.

I've got no problems with Dusty. He's in decline sure, time waits for no one, but he's still a very good player. A couple of straighter kicks and he could have got us the win, but he shouldn't have had to. Miller and Sampson et al kick the easy ones and we probably win.

He'll still be a key contributer, and he'll still steer us home sometimes, but he's now a just a star rather than an unstoppable colossus.

Think this has some merit. Even as a junior and early in his career a 50+m drop punt was common.

And aging champ in decline along with his team is pretty common.

Can't kick 45m. And has lost a yard, Panda. Fresh? Sound? He's neither of those. Labouring with an injury. I'm going to throw the dart at the diagnosis board and watch it hit Hamstring Tendonitis.

RFC won't divulge the diagnosis but if we find out what it is form students can get some expectation and watch for progress. Eventually we'll find out.

He is definitely carrying some sort of injury that he can play with but is affecting his power/explosiveness. He is only 32 not 52. If it is something that can improve with rest the club might need to give him a spell now the season is all but shot.

Plodding atm. Owes us nothing .

Would look at a trade for a 1st rounder & 2nd years end .
We need to get back into the draft .
