Not a bull anymore.

Lost the trademark insane strength through the core.

Won’t get it back.

Permanent forward role isn't working. Good to see him start throwing guys off him at the end though. Maybe he finally remembered who he is.
Yeah he started doing some Dusty stuff when the game was over. All the heat had gone. He gave us very little when the game was on.

Probably one of his best don't argue goals ever tonight. He sat his opponent down with force after a deft 1-2 with Cotch like only they can do. We don't know how many more games Dusty/Cotch will play together, so I'm going to appreciate these highlights while they're still happening. Classic Dusty goal in front of a packed MCG!

Yeah he’s the sort of player who falls off pretty quick if he loses a yard or a bit of strength.

At his best Dusty would make things happen through brute force. If you can’t do that it makes things very difficult.

Compare to a Pendlebury type, that more rangy, linking style, which seems more durable.

Riewoldt's form at 34 is consistent with this concept too. Jack doesn't depend on brute force or athleticism, so ageing doesn't seem to affect his game as much.

It seems across the board there's generally more longevity in smarts than physical traits (injuries permitting).

Another question is how Dusty's sublime skills stand up in the coming years. Skills in general play are more dependant on being able to create space, and Dusty creates space using his raw power and breakaway pace wheeling inboard 80m from goal, whereas skills longevity for a forward like Jack could be less affected by the ability to create space, since a higher proportion of those kicks are from marks.

If he can improve his marking a bit more, maybe that'll help maintain those laser passes into the forward line we all love. Dimma has been onto him about his marking since 2017 though IIRC!

Well the template would be Leigh Matthews but the forward experiment has failed thus far.

Dusty is certainly at a crossroads and may need to reinvent himself as a ball hunter in the first mid rotation. Prestia’s role.

Radical, but I think it could be a lifeline

Never been much of a hunter because our ruck has always been so average to poor.

Can't hide him at half back either.

Thought Dusty played ok. Think he needs to have a little more time in the midfield if anything - maybe he will as he regains full fitness. He’s not a problem at the moment.

Biggest issues are a quality ruck, a couple more speedy midfielders with elite kicking skills and key forwards.

I don't think it's over.
There's 500 footballers on AFL lists that would be shitter then Dusty.
He was ok tonight.
He missed that easy goal in the 3rd that wouldve/couldve ended Melbourne's run.
He adds more then most and he always takes a quality defender.

Gets judged far too harshly. He has set the bar so high we still expect to perform at that level.

He's going ok, but the thing is, if he's not a game winner for us anymore then we don't really have anyone else who is. Shai certainly hasn't been that this year.

He was ok. But we’ve seen the best of the Dusty Dog. Lost a yard or two. That’s to be expected.

He’ll still have the odd real good game, but just not as many anymore.

Will kick 6 against GC and 10 against WC but who knows the next week.

I agree with this, I think the Umps jumping all over his Dont Argue earlier in the season - even when he was out of bounds - may have thrown his confidence out
