This doesn't seem to be getting mentioned much. Why would any agent let his player sign a contract when the TPP environment may be just about to change? That would be massively negligent, surely.

He wouldn't. Quite obviously. You are asking the wrong question. The question you should be asking is: "Given that no agent worth is salt will counsel his client to sign a contract under these terms, how in the wide wide world of sports are we going to sell newspapers and fill the airwaves until this is sorted?" The microphone wavers have a much more immediate problem.

The answer of course is to manufacture headlines about Dusty Martin. Once a newspaper has been sold, it can't be unsold if the lead story is later proven to be nonsense.

No he wasn't.

Sen were taking Dusty side and having a go at the media except Sam MacLure who was taking the media's side and criticised Choco.
Sam McClure came across as very precious this morning. Apparently it's Dusty's fault that continually being questioned about his future makes him uncomfortable. WTF!? He was asked the question, answered it by saying that it was being dealt with by his manager and the club (which is how it should be done), was asked it again, and then Chocco stepped in and they both repeatedly tried to pull the whole thing back on track, the media wouldn't, so they walked. I don't see what the fuss is.

Yes I enjoyed it too.
Idiot saying he'd just keep asking Martin the question about his contract endlessly 'because people want to know' made him sound like a complete tool.
Sam Maclure is quickly becoming the most annoying person on radio.

funny how it is OK for Fyfe to say that he has put contract talks on hold until the end of the season but it is not OK for Dusty to say it. I'm guessing that Fyfe also leaves at some point after he answers the question. Everybody has to go home eventually.

Why isn't he deemed to "storm off" when he walks away?

BTW, yet again, the Dusty circus provided a welcome smokescreen for the biggest scandal in Australian sporting history. Instead of being forced to discuss the headlines about his beloved Essendon and their trials and tribulations this morning, Timmy Watson could make smarmy jokes about Dusty instead.

So predictable.

Still, the Essendon saga just gives and gives.

Spot on Tottie.

Had to have a laugh at Dim when he had a crack at Caro for being a little biased an emotional towards the Tigers.
Urgh news flash Dim!! We've been listening to your tainted bile re your son and the Bombers for the past 4 freakin years.
Pot, kettle..

spot on again. You'd reckon Ess interviewing Gatto for standover services would be a bigger story. But, you'd reckon a stack of stuff on the Essendon drugs crap.

The media circus continues.

Now they are reporting that Ralph Carr confirmed that Martin wanted to go to GWS but the AFL blocked the move.

Watson again is throwing his opinion around as if its fact.

Says that Martin will definitely not sign before the year is out and confirmed the story about Martin wanting to go up to play in Sydney because at the time he was homesick.

He says that he has spoken to Ralph Carr off air about Martin's situation.

This "story" was sparked by Robbo yesterday who said Carr told him Martin wants to go to GWS but the AFL blocked it.
To be fair to Robbo, he said it was BS and wasn't interested in following it up.
Now the media is selectively editing what Robbo said and treating it as news.
It's shameful.

If we start losing a few the media circus at RFC will go bananas.
Only way to shut them up is to start on a good note.

The media have been all over us for anything

1.. missing the finals last year, (so did 10 other teams),
2.. the Yarran farce (justifiably).
3... the Mr Miyagi incident.

Actually this would make a good poll.

However In that same time, we've done a lot of good things too.
You just wouldn't hear much about it.

If Martin is were to have a stellar season then he would rightfully expect fair and decent recompense for his services from any club, let alone the Tigers.
If the Tigers have a particularly crap season this year then anything could happen with Martin and his contract. Yet, if Martin and the team play well then I reckon he will sign-on come season's end.
The media can have its fun, but, in the end, Martin probably won't be signing anything (except for a few autographs) until 2017 is done and dusted.

If Martin doesn't want to play for us for good money, why not get some draft picks. We don't need people bending us over anymore, offer good, fair money and if that's not enough, then as far as I'm concerned he can ef off. I realise this is the media, but he and his manager have history + one day he is going to completely unravel.

Love Dusty but spot on

Will be interesting what the offers would be from opposition clubs if he doesn't re-sign.

Wasn't the Lance Franklin compo pick #19 for his massive 9 year contract?

We could get an end of 1st round pick for Dusty going by the Franklin compo.

If so, it would probably be better to match an offer, even though it would be higher than what we have put on the table. Otherwise we will be behind the 8 ball once again.

Has not allowing players to bend us over been a successful strategy?

100% correct. Offer him what's right $800-900 and if he dosent like it, trade him out to stkilda for Arces and a pick.
