Dustin Martin

I am expecting bigger and better things from the reigning JD medalist. Much will be dependent on the game plan instigated and whether Martin is given licence to use his extraordinary long-kicking skills. With the right structures and forward half set-ups Martin has the ability to break lines with his penetrating kicking and create deep forward pressure on the opposition's defence.

I hope MArtin is back to more of an attacking midfielder this year. Think we missed the extra goals he can produce seemingly at will when playing forward. Last year he was defensive side a little too much. I presume recruiting Caddy and Prestia will allow that to happen.

Anyway, I think Dusty is right up there with Buckley and Lids in regard to long foot passing. He's breathtaking. He's also a gun when shooting for goal on the run up to 60 metres out. Watch the game against the Lions at the Gabba in his 2nd year I think.

I think whenever he has the ball outside the D50, forwards should be leading and expecting the ball. Cut out those dinky 20 metre passes from the outside of his foot. Kick it long to JR and others one-on-one. Give the small forwards a chance to run onto it and use their pace. His distance and accuracy should be fully utilized.

He should also have carte blanche to go for goal whenever he's in range, unless a team-mate is clearly all alone. Got so frustrated last year when he was in range and gave it off.

Use his strengths, long kicking to position, kicking goals on the run and getting him one-on-one in the FP when he's resting.
this is the reason handbrake neeeds to GO he has taken an exciting gifted footballer and is trying to turn him into a DRONE

Was it a decent interview?
Not really. Dustys piece was about 20 seconds (if that!). The rest was a sympathy piece how we shouldn't deport bikies and Peter Dutton is "tearing families apart".

FWIW Greg Denham said on SEN that this deal will be announced before the season starts. Have to wait and see.

That would be brilliant ToO, from listening to the inter club match Balmey seemed non pluses by it and gave me confidence that something will happen soon enough.

Although to be honest im not a panic merchant anyhow, i feel the same as Balmey, would much prefer he stays but should he decide to lave we have to position ourselves for best return, relatively simple..

But good news and i tend to think he will sign before mid year but if not then such is life.

Just occurred to me… Isn’t he a restricted free agent at the end of this year? This means he’ll be an unrestricted FA in a further 2 years…
