Throwing in conca could ruin the deal

With Heppell taking the captaincy I think we need to elevate Conca to the leadership group

If saints want him ask for 1st rounder and Bruce/tape.......simple .....offer our 2 first rounders for Fyfe (saints & GWS 1st rounder.......we still strong position in next years draft hanging on to 1st rounder..

That is pittance for Dusty, particularly if they want him. Must play hardball. I believe they also have 2 1st round picks in this years draft. I'd be asking for Billings and both their 1st round picks. Eventually settling with Billings and the 'best of' the 2 1st round picks they have.

FYFE IS AN F'N FREE AGENT!
RESTRICTED FREE AGENT...........Freo can match any offer so we would need to negotiate a deal with them like Geelong did with Dangerfield......

So now we have Kane Lambert in The Age suggesting they're gonna try and get Martin to up his defensive game.

Yeah.

That's what we need, one of the lowest scoring teams in 2016, universally criticised for slow, indirect ball movement, and we lean on Dusty to become more defensive.

Just a puff piece, but if this is in any way an internal directive then we are flat out screwed and I'm glad Dimma is heading out the door.

You DO NOT care where someone like Dusty is running defensively. You just get it to him and watch the show.

Sorry but this is complete crap Carts. I have no issue with the coach asking players to also focus on the defensive side of their game.
Have a look at the Bulldogs. They apply huge defensive pressure when they don't have the ball in order to try and win it back.
2 way footballers is what we want. Dusty included.

it was a plank of their flag, to a man. Easton Wood, what a player.

It depends on the meaning of "defensive game". Does it mean spending more time down back or working on his defence when we/he doesn't have the ball.

100% agree. Our defensive pressure has been our Achilles heal for many many years, decades actually

While I agree that all players need to be able to apply defensive pressure Oldie, I'd far prefer to see Dusty receiving the ball from defence than having to run it out of there himself.

I would be 99% certain its the latter.

Everybody loves the glamour. Defensive stuff is hard work & unspectacular but no less important!

You can defend as well as you want, but you won't win games if you don't kick goals and Martin can do that, but our current gameplan and use of the player doesn't give him the opportunity to do that.

ToO that is crap in itself (with respect ;D )

Two-way footballers is an outdated term IMO. Players know they have to work backwards, its ingrained in their game from the under 12s.

You maximise the skills at your disposal. You let Dusty loose and you tell him to 45/45 the *smile*er at every opportunity. Never seen a better exponent of that art.

If Dusty cops a hard tag that he can't break then get him to work backwards and use him differently, by all means.

But FFS if we're getting the likes of Dusty to sag back with the rest of Dimma's drones we'll have no one to kick it to like we did last year.

Damien Hardwick's defensive bias collapses any structure we try to generate. The players end up not being confident enough to go because Hardwick imposes too many conditions on them. This is our problem.

The bulldogs?

They attack the ball carrier like mad men. But you know what? There's always a guy on the end of it. You gotta know when to go.

If we can't tell our best and most offensive player to go then let's pack up the kit now.
