Just occurred to me… Isn’t he a restricted free agent at the end of this year? This means he’ll be an unrestricted FA in a further 2 years…
Should offer lower money but compensated by longer term. 5 years. And this will keep the unrestricted free agency at bay for a while.
Hope its not another 2 year deal and have to go thru all this again

It's likely to be a two-year deal, unless it's awesome terms for Martin. Why would he sign for any longer? Would you?

I disagree on paying him lower money. Pay him fair value for however the length of contract.

$800k a year long term offer for dusty

4m over 5years wojld be considered cheaper in years 4 & 5. If he stays injury free

Dusty will go where he thinks he can win the ultimate, a Premiership. $'s offered at Punt Road might be the best offer but where are Tigers in pecking order to win a premiership. It appears very low in the pecking order so where would he go. I have advocated The Dees for quite along time but maybe he will have a good goose at the Swans. His Dads missus lives there. Quite a few Victorian based high profilers have had a new lease life in the Harbour City. Also Longmire would be pushing for Dusty to join Buddy & Co.

FWIW Mark Stevens is tweeting that the offer will be rejected and he will wait until year end as planned

While I would much prefer that Martin was signed-up early, I am comfortable with him waiting until season's end to make his contract decisions. I just hope RFC and the team are able to handle the pressure of constant media speculation as the season unfolds.

Bullarto , while I agree with you, you just know it's going to be a distraction for the club if the seasons starts bad.

Don't know if the club can handle that , because not only does it become a question about what will Dusty do, but also about the coach!

With Balme there you hope the club can be strong and more importantly that Dusty can absorb what will come his way again. He shows he has strength in character so far .

Hope it doesn't end badly.

He is probably right. But that's the starting point. Deal wont be far off that figure. Might push close to $900K.

Deal will get done.

Have to assume that the Dusty camp made the Tigers offer public as part of their bidding war to see whether it flushes out a higher bidder.

As for Dusty - who knows what he is thinking - beyond speculating to be honest

On the other hand Richmond may have made the offer public so as to flush out other offers.

Watson is adamant that he will not sign anywhere for some time yet. Essendon are into Martin big time and are very confident that he will sign with them.
