Dustin Martin

I think he will stay.

Even though my son loves him and he is one of my favorite players (Rance and Cotchy equal), i cant help but feel like last time that this is sh!te... I realize its a business but all his best mates and brothers haven't held the club to ransom, we want to compete for flags, 1 greedy person can definitely ruin that possibility...

And for those saying he won't ever earn additional income what a load of rubbish, he already has a clothing brand and i am sure is involved with other projects.

Like everyone else, the BS should come to an end and his intentions prior to finals should be advised so as to not destabilize the campaign, as one thing is for sure the longer it drags on the more media attention it will get, no team needs this type of intrusion especially RFC who are trying to win our first finals in many years!

Time to sign or let us know Dusty!

I have noticed a few times you mentioned that the increase in TPP means an increase in a current comtract. Are you for real, is every player currently contracted going to get the increase or only new contracts post the new deal? Someone tell me a contract is a contract.
A contract is a contract if somewhere in that contract it states a player receives any future tpp increases as a result of a new cba. Any player manager would have that clause if they knew a new cba was expected at sone time during the player's contract.

Dusty will go to North and be a huge bust that ends up taking leave for 'mental health issues'. I base this on the assumptions that North will sell the farm and give him 1.5 a year for 6 years and they will also allow him to make the short flight to NZ after every game in Tassie. If the Tigers give him much more than 1 mill a year then we are gutless morons. The club will be fine without Martin if he sells his soul. Naturally I'd like to keep him - but on our terms.

I know they have stated all along that they want to wait until the end of the year. But if we have 1.2 mil on the table & he still hasn't signed, the longer it drags on the less promising it looks.

Contracts are never as simple as $6 million over 6 years as has been reported. It probably includes bonuses for finishes in the b&F, games played, increases as per the eba etc etc. So Caro's probably about right

How do they incorporate these unknowns into a salary cap?

Yep. He's gone I reckon

Its hard to be 100% sure on what others get but if Fyfe is on 1.2 then Dusty should be on at least that if not $1.3.

North apparently paid Wayne Carey $1M per season when the cap was only $4-5Mill. It did squeeze some players out but thats what you need to do to keep genuine match winners. If that squeezes out 1 or 2 players do be it. We should have the cap there. Once Yarran payments come out have 4 (Jack-Tross-Martin-Cotch) true starts and a group of OK/Good players that should easily fit into the cap.

Good teams keep their best players - I think the call for Franklin and Ablett was slightly easier as they had won the ultimate with their team mates/original club. If our improved development trajectory continues, with our best 4 closing in on 29-30yo (as the Lions champions did 2001-2004), then we are up for a tilt in our 2017-2020 window. If Dusty wants to be part of that, he stays and gets paid as he deserves.

I also lie to think we have the professionalism of our President, Benny, Balme and Richardson to get this done too. In the past we could have been accused of weal leader sip and player management skills, hardly the situation in 2017.

We sit and wait, we hope and in the mean time, just for the fun of it, lets win the next 4 games!!!! and a few after that too.,

I'd spend 1.1 million on him if he cuts loose in the finals series. He's yet to do that so far.
You want the big bucks, then show why you deserve it.
Finals football defines great players.

dont know how they do it but with injury payments / upgraded rookie payments & the like, Balmey described the salary cap figure as "fluid"

Be great to see Dusty dump Ralph he is a freak . Looks like a ped to me plus the way he goes about it is a shocker . Lets hope they get it done prior to the finals still dont think Dusty is going anywhere but with a manager like that anything could happen . ::)

Under normal circumstances I would agree,

But his managers track record with Cloke , makes me think , this is how he works , holds everyone to ransom for as long as he can

For what it's worth I I'm starting to think he's gone rumors starting to come thick and fast and you know the saying where there's smoke.........
Out of curiosity what would we receive as compo..........he was a pick 3, offer of 1.2-1.5 ish ,...........Brownlow......?

thats a pre-social media saying mt.

these days, every day looks like Black Saturday, but its really just an old bloke in a red flannel shirt, smouldering off some plastic in a 44 gal. drum over the back lane.

Tony Sheahan reporting on twitter that North have tabled a $7.8 million, 6 year deal to Dusty.

Here's what the club is dealing with:

A friend of mine started a venture with Dustin (independently of Ralph Carr) which started going rather well. There were no issues with anything and Dustin was really happy with how it was all going. Enter Ralph Carr. As soon as he found out he wasn't getting a slice of the action he threw a major tantrum. Suddenly there were threats, both legal and otherwise and eventually Ralph Carr Management muscled their way into the venture. As soon as that happened everything had to be done according to Ralph, (including the RCM logo on everything).

It got to the point where Ralph felt that they should be getting more money than the previous spilt agreed to. After a lot of toing and froing my friend was ultimately completely cut from the venture despite having started the whole thing. Now it is completely run by Ralph who is getting a lions share of the proceeds. Is it better for Dustin? I don't know but all I know is that Dustin blindly follows Ralph Carr for whatever reason and takes his word as gospel.

So this is what the club is dealing with. I'm sure if Dustin had another manager the contract would have been signed long ago. That's my 2 cents worth. Ralph Carr is largely impossible to deal with.

That would be 600k less tax more than our bid if Caro is right. Surely he wouldn't
