Dustin Martin

I'd hate Dusty to leave. But Clangerfield, Abblett, Buddy, even Griffen have shown that teams can cover the loss of a big name star when it's required. You could even add Lids to the list of stars who have switched clubs.

If he goes, we need to wail, sob, scream, stamp our feet to ensure we get the best possible compensation. When that's achieved, erase the player from our memories.

Another big game against quality opposition for the million dollar man. Can he deliver?

If he plays with no intensity like last week, no. In fact everyone bar Cotch and Rioli and maybe Rance should be ashamed to collect their pay cheques last week. SHOW SOME HEART, SHOW US YOU LOVE THE CLUB AS MUCH AS WE DO, GIVE US SOMETHING TO HANG OUR HATS ON.

I mentioned above that coaching is crucial to Martin's progress this year, and probably to retaining him.

There are very simple things, crucial to Martin's improved form in Rounds 1-4, that he stopped doing in Rounds 5 and 6.

How coachable Dusty is is the coach's problem. Just as credit has to go to the coach for our man's level-above football earlier in the season, the coach has to be in the gun when the improvements evaporate.

There are three signs of coaching that I'll be looking for tonight, signs that Martin is actually being coached:

Improved speed of use. (The big one.) One step, hit the target. Five steps straight. No overcooking. On the break only when in space. He will shake his taggers and find space over the much more course of the game. He will slice them up. Keep that ball moving.

Intensity and success of defensive running. We're not looking to make a tagger of him but sometimes it's your turn. Furthermore the three amigos will thrive on the example and leadership. We need some hunting from him. It will inspire. Catch a couple. Eat em.

He's got to hit the targets. A niggle can sap confidence but Dusty's had time to adjust. Hit the target FFS.

These were in place. They aren't now. It's up to the coach to reinstate them.

Dustin Martin will cut em bad if he gets back to this.

Purple on radio saying he speaks regularly to carr and that Carr has told him he will def NOT sign until rd 23... was adamant that's the case
Purple even said we upper our offer but still gonna wait. Maybe to up it higher again...?

Not a good sign...

Who cares. We still have Edwards

If he he does want out hopefully he lets us know so we can make plans.

Would hate to lose him... unless we trade him for GC Tom Lynch. I'd sign Lynch up for 8 Years on a mill per year in a heartbeat. Midfielders are nice, but CHFs are gold.

Turnovers are really hurting us at the moment, there were at least 3 or 4 entries into F50 that were either the wrong option or were executed really poorly. If he wants to be a top 5 midfielder in the AFL and get remunerated as such, then he needs to start to minimise these. He needs to acknowledge that sometimes the long kick forward isn't the best option and look for the overlap.

Yeah he is kicking like an old mule at the moment. WTF has happened in the past couple of weeks. Kicking floaters and butchering it.

But that effort on the wing where he made 3-4 efforts and won the ball against 2 opponents was sensational.

He should just do what the others do and bomb it to a contest. Cant get in trouble for that.

Thats what he did do, and was the wrong option. The one where we had 3 players streaming through the middle and he bombs it to a 2 on 1 with Elton in the goal square, should have continued to run it into F50. Then there was the awful turnover when going inside 50 in the 3rd that they rebounded and kicked a goal because he missed his target by at least 5 metres.

He needs to be better than that. Its easy to bag the least skilled players in the team but its the stars that should be winning us games, just look at the Bont tonight and compare his game to Dusty's. Personally thought that was a very average game from Dusty.

Is he really worth a million dollars? I don't think so.
Bontempelli was the one worth the money tonight.

Is Dusty worth $300,000 pa more than were paying our midget?
IMO Yes!

He tries to spot someone up, he shouldn't. As i said he should just bomb it like everyone else. Getting all ants in your pants about a bloke who just pulled a team high 15cp and 7 clearances. Get a grip mate. He ain't the issue, if he had quality support the minor issues would iron themselves out.

Cotchy struggled to go 50% last week yet gets lauded for his effort. I guess the axes have to get grinded on some poor sob right?

Bont a better player for sure. Martin worth about what we offered him. Too many turnovers to ask for a million
