Dustin Martin

Depends if the paperwork for retirement has been submitted to the AFL.

Expect he is still on Richmond's books and Richmond possibly may still have final payments to be paid Martin.
regardless, he is on our list until list lodgement submisions whenever the 1st one is

this is extraordinary, cynical at best, bullcrap.

read Daniel Lloyd Brisbane MSD. you can't retire and play the following year. the year after yes.

if you could retire and walk and play for whoever you wanted, the whole system falls apart.

you have to sit out a full year

every journo who propagates this story in any form, without referring to it being against AFL rules,

is a useless, cynical, incompetent *smile*

and its dusty reputation.

*smile* them

To Leysy's thinking The retirement clause would only come into effect once the player was delisted (due to retirement).

They could then un-retire themselves and be available in one of the drafts - national, mid-season etc. Which like Lloyd, the AFL has blocked.

As that timeline hasn't occurred yet and until Oct 31 he is still contracted to Richmond, that doesn't come into effect.

Ergo - He can sign with another club as a free agent. Same as anyone else.

Sounds like none of them know the rule

even if they dont know the rule,

wouldn't they just run a headline below saying

'$hai Bolton retires effective immediately'

then run

"$hai Bolton in talks with Fremantle'

this simply can't happen, or the game is actually finished

But Martin is OOC as of October 31.

2 or 3 flags were enough achievement for the relevant players. Nothing more to gain. Look elsewhere. Only the kids will build with a new coach now. Loyalty doesn't exist anymore except for a very few like Broad and Dion.
You cannot brush off what is happening now, our next generation of leaders and our best player (Shai not Dusty)all cleared out.

Putting your head in the sand doesn't make it ok. If it was a corporate business having this amount of top level staff leaving there would be conversations as to why and that's what we need to do.

Yeah. And you'd have to think that Merkin and Martin would know the rules.

I don't have that much faith in human nature. I hope Dusty remains true to his word and stops my faith falling either further.

Whether he plays or not. He wants to, or is at least considering it.

This one hurts.
