Draft/Trade Strategy 2023

I can't believe we're in trade discussions and chasing free agents without a coach. Surely they're having input, otherwise we could be getting players who don't fit the coaches game plan/style. Seems dangerous for any prospective coach if they have no say on types.
Maybe Mini is the coach then.

Will Brodie anyone?

Fell out of favour this year after having a great first season with the Dockers.
He's not a terrible suggestion, he just needs to be managed well, it's not so much the speed but more the tank, he spends a fair bit of time on the bench recharging, Pendlebury he aint but he's a better player than Dow who just received a contract extension. He's 25 so still has 5-6 years of footy ahead of him, I'd consider as a free agent.

This wouldn't be that unusual would it after a coaching change? Blair would have most of the control over what he feels we need.

I think most clubs would have an idea of what an incoming coach thinks of the list. But they wouldn't recruit players that the new coach doesn't want.

I would trade Dusty, Timmy and Hopper in a straight swap for Michael’s grandson.
There, I‘be said it.

I read something this morning that suggested that Tom Green is considered a future captain at GWS.

We really missed on that one.

Shame we don't have a grandfather / grandchild rule!

The problem is he never wanted to play for us. I remember his grandfather talking to KB on SEN just after he was drafted. He said how Richmond had tried their best but he was always going to GWS. Given he was an academy selection I don’t see how we could have gotten him. He has never shown any interest in playing for the tigers so he can go forth and multiply as far as I’m concerned.

He is one of the players you just love to watch.
If he gets off the leash in the next two games they are a real show to win it.
(so I disagree with any animosity towards him)

It's very simple Blair and Livingston need to come up with a strategy to get us picks in twenties or late first round and that's with hard decisions putting a few good names on the trade table I'm not sure if they got the will to do it.

The first mistake was putting triggers in Maccas and Graham contracts for this year.

Without knowing much personally, from what I've read the draft quality drops significantly from the early teen selections onwards. I can't see late first round onwards being much use to us, we will need to somehow prise GC's first pick to get a quality long term player IMO.

How was that a mistake this year? Firstly, this would’ve been done 2-3yrs ago. Secondly, a lot of contracts would be structured that way. Thirdly, contracted players can still be moved on in a trade.

Dusty went from very good to top of the tree at the age of 25.
Shai turns 25 in December.

You don't trade players like Shai at his age, he literally could become the best player in the competition over the next 2-3 years.
fremantle did with Lachie Neale

Push them all back 7-10 with father sons and academy picks.
These academy's are going to bend us over.
My mate that moved up to QLD reckons there always 300-400 kids always at AFL clinics.
They only need 1 Dusty or Cotch from that 300.
So why hasn't Richmond got an academy??

We do. But Victorian clubs get jack and *smile* from their acadmey process. We can have bids matched unless they're a high risk of failure (or draft is super deep).
We have to invest heavily into it, and I can't see the riverina giving us 400 kids at a clinic.

Would you accept 40 kids and KB training them?

The dozy is revealed ;)................................... Please No!

Collingwood forward Jack Ginnivan has informed the club on his desires to request a trade to the Richmond Football Club.
