Yeah concerns were valid. I still think I would have punted on him but I understand why clubs didn't.

I'm not sure you were aware of the real reason if you still would have been prepared to draft him last year.

I know the reason, he was chemically cooked. But for the last pick on your rookie list, why not?

But I understand why and I do think the AFL may have had some background chats on him with clubs.

That's not the real reason. Despite having a few character traits that didn't sit well with AFL teams there was at least one compelling reason why no one would take the chance. This includes the rookie list.
Once the word got out, no club could take the chance. It sounds easy to draft him just on his talent and forget everything else but I don't think any club made a mistake based on what they knew.
They have to do due diligence on every player they select.
From my understanding, that issue is now not a factor but at the time it was way too risky for any club to have him on their playing list.

Hope we can grab him. Where though? Rookie draft? Late ND pick? PSD? Second rounder?

You wouldn't want to risk your 1stR pick. Most clubs would be thinking the same. He'd go second round I'd reckon.

Last year he was close to a top 1 pick, first rounder at least. I imagine with another year under his belt the AFL will ask clubs to part with their 1st and 2nd round picks to snag him.

Interesting. I'm sure many will also be watching his performances off field as well.
Hopefully the kid has had a reality check and turned things around as it's clear he's very talented.

No chance of a first rounder IMO. Can definitely see a second rounder being a possibility though.

Classic boom or bust, if we snare Adams with our first pick and he's available with our second pick then get it done some serious talent injection there !

It's unbelievable that we kept Derrickx on the list and not use one of our rookie selections on him last year.

I think if we didn't already have our hands full with Martin we would have been more inclined to take him. We had Martin as priority one, and rightly so I believe, but now if Martin is sorted we should chase Garlett.

BTW not blaming Martin at all.

Seems the young bloke was a bit of a headcase last year, but seems to have settled down and wants to come too Melbourne .
There are 3 to 4 clubs looking at him,and have approached his managment, Richmond North Sydney and Brisbane are interested.
What are your thoughts , they were saying last year that if he hadn,t gone out on the eve of the draft last year he could have been a top 10 pick.

Plenty info in the Garlett thread in junior footy, nackers. Ya can read all about him.

Good time to rookie him now that he'd probably be over his wild life peak.

In such a deep draft for mids, I wouldn't take him with our first round pick.

Think he'll be gone by our second but if not I would take him.

Who ever gets him will get a player for round 1 2014.
