David Astbury, Thank You

it's pretty simple really - Astbury plays instead of Chaplin and takes on the opposition best tall forward (last year he was beating most opponents), which releases Rance even more. Grimes remains our third tall option, drop batchelor and bring in more run with the likes of Deledio, Lennon or Mcdonough. On top of this we need to look for an upgrade for Houli.

Had a brief chat to Astbury after the game yesterday. He said he doesn't see himself getting picked any time soon because "they don't rate me at the moment".

Was later told second-hand (original source: someone we all love) that he's a sh!t bloke.
That's bs , he s actually a very popular teammate . Would have definitely played r1 had not been injured by the Ray, and don't discount him coming in as third tall

Pretty much, Harry. I don't think we can play Chaplin and Batch in the same team.

I hope you're right. The man himself said those words to me yesterday though. Asked 'surely you'll be back next week?', he said, 'Doubt it. They don't rate me at the moment.' I really hope my source was wrong about what kind of bloke he is.

Which part TF? Not rated or sh!t bloke?

Probably both. Seems a bit up himself in the way he speaks to Newman and Lloyd but it doesn't matter if he performs well on-field. We need some arrogance in the team.

Has to play. Based on form Grimes to make way. Also we can move him forward if required. Only having two key forwards to kick to with no one who can rove to them besides Shane Edwards, we need to have a swingman so we can test out talls from the opposition.

Yeah fair enough. Not exactly sure what they are going for with the Hello Newman clips. I reckon most of our players (except Axel) come across as wankers. They are too busy trying to be funny/take the *smile*/ tell in jokes.

Meh. As long as he can play

I reckon that's an ordinary comment Spook, and I can't really see any reason why you would pass it on.

From all previous reports, Dave is a quality bloke, who is held in high regard by the playing group. And really unless you

have met him personally you are just denigrating his character for no reason.

Fair enough, josey. Prolly right. Just gossip. Withdrawn.

I find that interesting seeing as he was our best defender last year when Rance was injured.

Very much doubt he would not be rated.

In one of his first training sessions at the club, they did a cycle ride up some mountains somewhere (can't remember where). After he finished his own ride, he rode back down the hill to meet a couple of guys in the last group, and rode with them to the top, encouraging them to push through the pain and get to the finish.

Really doubt that type of person is arrogant or up himself.

Leaders have to show a bit of arrogance. I like Astbury. We need more like him.

So now we are picking players based on whether they are 'good blokes'? Explains with Cotch is captain and Rance and Jack aren't in the leadership group. Richmond Football Club, a strut-free zone.

As many nice, mild mannered boys as we can cram in.

I'll agree with that.

For what its worth, I was walking in a back street in sth yarra a few months ago and pretty much bumped right into him, walked the same direction for a bit and had a chat. I couldn't have met a more decent respectful person.

That's why I found it so surprising.

Yep, that's what I thought.

He was polite enough to speak to us. As I said, I withdraw the gossip.
