David Astbury, Thank You

Probably both. Seems a bit up himself in the way he speaks to Newman and Lloyd but it doesn't matter if he performs well on-field. We need some arrogance in the team.
Very surprised at the "stirring" way he was talking to Newie perhaps there is some history between them we don't know about. He seems concerned about former players (his friends) that have been let go and may feel they have just been cast aside by the club. He keeps in touch with them which is good but I was surprised he accused Newie of not doing the same. I met Dave soon after he came to the club and he was a great bloke, very friendly to everyone. Let's remember the significant injuries he's had to deal with since 2010 which have probably made him very cynical about ever having a long career in this game. Perhaps he thinks he will be let go like his friends? Perhaps he thinks the club should keep in contact with the likes of Post, Browne, etc. but that's not really their job. Perhaps his injuries have left some mental scars as well as physical so this year will test his character to play his best footy consistently and force the selectors to pick him in the seniors.

Maybe he agrees with most of us in that Newman should've retired. I'm finding these Hello Newman videos quite boring and unnecessary.

I think people are making a mountain out of a mole hill here. From memory I recall that Newman and Astbury are actually good friends (often have dinner together with Rance the night before matches).

I think he just has a dry sense of humour.

In any case, looking forward to him forcing his way back into our backline. I think him and Rance would make a very good pairing.

Yeah fair enough. Not exactly sure what they are going for with the Hello Newman clips. I reckon most of our players (except Axel) come across as wankers. They are too busy trying to be funny/take the p!ss/ tell in jokes.

Meh. As long as he can play

don't usually watch this stuff but was intrigued by what people were surmising. Nothing there. I don't really care what the players do in their own time, just as long as they turn up to play. BTW it s pretty terrible viewing. I won't be going back for more.

Hoping our new full back.. has an influence tomorrow night. Another player who needs a real change of fortune and a solid string on games to improve. Can't afford any more breaks in his development.

Tonight? I certainly hope not, that would mean he's playing for either the Pies or the Aints, and not us. I do join you though in hoping that he can have a good long injury free run at things.

Do the Lions even have a forward?

Competent game tonight. Certainly a key part of our defence for some time to come injuries permitting. Strong, good hands, good football brain and surprisingly mobile. Well pleased
