David Astbury, Thank You

Chaplin provides leadership, organisation, run, intercept marks, but can't out body the taller forwards he has to play on when Astbury isn't there. Would have been hopeless on Tippett if Buddy had played. Very few are perfect but many add lots to the team dynamics

I'm only commenting on how he has performed in games, not on what might have happened if.... As I said I thought he was very poor early in the season but he's been rock solid in the latter half of the season. I read somewhere that since our run of wins Chaplin has been 2nd in intercepts in the AFL, behind yep Rance. Working very well together. Astbury adds another dimension and certainly I agree it helps us being able to assign Chaplin to roles that support his best strengths. Have to say I've been very happy with the form of our backline.

'solid' against the Swans?

Chaps was fumbly on the ground and lacked confidence in the air, particularly when isolated one-on-one. There was no major harm done apart from that bad ground error that cost a goal.

Turned his season around and had a good back arf, but enters the finals with somewhat indifferent form IMO.

I sometimes think that you and I watch different matches ..... We're the ones in yellow and black

That's right, but if I want bald, soulless stats I know who to go to :hihi

Spot on about Chaplain.
It is hard to work out why he looked so ordinary in the first half of the year - but at the time he was a real worry.
Fortunately he's got better and better as the season has gone on - and I also thought he was very reliable against Sydney.
Hopefully that form will continue into this weekend and beyond.

Scraping the barrel with that one, desperate, no class and has nothing to do with the issue :headscratch

With the berry back, if he and grimes stay fit! Rance developing into an AA, does Chaplin become depth?

Rance a lock!
Berry for the gorillas. Chaplin has been poor one on one!
Grimes is versatile and quick! Both he and Chaplin cracked under pressure at times in 014!

Hopefully this is one of the dilemmas the selection committee will face in 015! I prey that players dont keep their spot by default after been lured across now that our maturing talent is proving it can play at the level we need to compete with the best.

Astbury seems to be going strong in training so he looks to be another one clear of the injury gremlins that have marred his career to date. Looking forward to a big season from Dave

Havent had a chance to watch the game yet but his stats dont look to flash.

Played a lock down role on Petrie, and kept him to 1 goal. Didn't get much of it, but did his job and will surely be there round 1.

Can't be judging full backs on stats. Thought he was pretty good on Petrie, who has carved us up in the past.

it might come down to match ups against Carlton - would he get Everitt?

I'd have thought he would go to their biggest tall so either casbault or henderson. Probably henderson IMO.

Reminds of Cogs slipping in the shower. Some players just find ways to get injured.

Stung by a stingray and out of R1 team.

Yep, during recovery at the beach.
Those scuba booties by MARES would easily prevent that incident occurring.
It's a bit silly. But it's cleared up the selection of the tall defenders, if there was any doubt.
ChAplin Rance and grimes.
