Noticed in the paper today that he is the only injured Tiger on our list, obviously our medical staff are kicking goals too.

Knights - quad - season
Thomas - knee - 1 week

I want to read that he has signed a new contract.

Can't imagine Dave going anywhere given how much the club has supported him through rehab.

If we do happen to make finals we may very well need to call on him. Makes absolute sense for him to play if he can.

Very worried Astbury may leave. Why didn't he sign during his 3 month rehab? He must be holding out for cash, wanted to prove his fitness so he can command more. With griffiths still unsigned it's a bit of a concern, a lot of development would be down the drain if either left just as each of them are about to enter their prime.

He's not in the best bargaining position really so i can't see him leaving. Has spend a lot of time injured, and has only really shown good form this year, very good form mind you. Got through last week's game unscathed which was a good test, but still has the injury cloud over him. He's not a free agent yet either, and lastly I'd imagine that they are waiting until the end of the year before making any contract decisions.

Yeh fair enough BT. He's a key signing for us. Chaplin has 3/4 years left max, once chappo loses his pace he could fall away quickly. Batch and Grimes not big enough for key posts, makes this guy very important. Teams up well with Rancey and I reckon he would be a decent match up for Tippett if he was match fit.

We only offered a 1 year deal. We now have upped it to two but he is uncommitted..

interestingly @ 3121 a couple of weeks ago, he said the decision to play again this year was dependant on the coaching group and ........................................... the list manager !!

True

Managing players on the list would be the job of a list manager i would think. Wouldn't read much into that, we have little knowledge of the individual roles each staff member has in regards to these decisions.
He played again in the twos, came through unscathed, ready for week 2 of the finals!

I'd offer the 3 years, but with performance incentives (number of games etc).

Don't want to lose him. He was our best player (after Dusty) in the first half of the year.

Two year deal is fair. Has had his fair share of injuries and anything more than that is frankly a big risk. If he performs the next two years event free and lives up to his form, he'll then be in a good position to bargain a good deal for the rest of his career. He is after all only 23.

Bit stiff if he is trying to hold the club to ransom.....
Considering his injury history and the fact this was his first year where he showed some real form in the 1's he should back himself to do it again.

Would any club pay overs for him considering the gamble?

I think plenty would pay overs. Our key position stocks are actually looking quite promising. It's our mid depth that needs work.

If someone came knocking with a 1st rounder, I'd take it.

You'd have to but we wouldn't be offered one unless part of a bigger deal..

No doubt there will be interest. He was one of the best KPD's, definitely the most improved in the first half of the year.

We know Astbury can take it up to the best.

Injuries the real worry though.

I hope he stays.

DA will be a key defensive plank for the next 8 years.

The knees will be ok. He'll learn how to play a little smarter I reckon.

The second knee was a combination of bad luck and Grigg's stupidity.

The first knee was horrible to watch because it was avoidable. I reckon DA was trying too hard at the time, he'd yet to bed down a senior role, was in and out if the side and was taking too many risks with his large frame.

I would be coaching him to keep things simple as he did earlier this season. We have Rance and Grimes to provide run, I'd be telling Astbury to take straight lines as often as possible and play the percentages. Kill the contest first.

I'd be happy with a simple, old fashioned full back if it meant he played most games.
