David Astbury, Thank You

Yep and he was hard as a calico bag full of nails dipped in cement as well.
Nah! Ghost was as soft as a limp one, remember tiny little Flea Wilson straightening all of Ghost's wrinkles out one day n flea was that soft he used to wear a pushy riders hat to save himself from a brain ache.

This reminiscing is making me nostalgic, nostalgic for a Richmond team that had hardness and toughness AND skill.
The Tigers of old used to be such competitive beasts and they were intimidating on all levels.
Wish the modern day Tigers could somehow channel some of that mongrel and desire for the contest.

:cutelaugh :clap There's always one.

Never give *smile* to the small ugly bloke in a bar I reckon. ;)

Imagine how Ghost and Flea would stiffen-up the Tigers of today.
I still rate Weightman as one of the all-time best and most talented small players I have watched in 40-odd years of football. His handball skills were sublime, Flea was always in the best three when playing representative football for the Vics.

No flies on Flea thats for sure

:hihi

he was pretty complete. In todays language, an inside, outside, upside down, goal-kicking mid with a huge engine. and he was as tough as *smile*.

Used to hate it when Flea played rep footy. Little champ would always have an outstanding state game, tear the bastards a new one and then be mediocre in the next game for us. He'd just never have enough petrol tickets left for a good game with us the following weekend.

Nah, the problem was when he came back to club footy he was surrounded by spastics. Not even Megan Gale would have looked any good in our teams of the late 80's.

Really looking forward to see how Dave goes today. Assuming he is playing on Roughhead it will be a real test of his skills today, even if roughie isn't 100%. hopefully can contain him to 2 goals or less.

I have enjoyed his development so far this season, he is quickly turning into one of my favorite players

:gotigers

Enormous game for Dave today.
Expect him to play on Roughy. Roughy"s was quiet last week so big test for the young player.

Big game as well for Chaplin who has been average this year.
Morris and Grimes need to stand up too.
Back line will be under so much pressure today so the mids have to help to minimise the easy delivery to their forwards otherwise it could get ugly today.

Go Dave.

Once again, our BOG. Played well and kept Roughy quiet.

Could've used him in attack....but....

He's been taking it one star forward at a time. Confidence up, its time to go forward when Rance returns.

I admit I could have been too harsh on David, he is getting better.

Wrong on both counts.

No could about it, you were. Add he's been very consistent this year, improvement on last year but this year he's been solid in all the games.
