David Astbury, Thank You

he did too :( then when did we last develop a genuine monster FB of our own?

Michael Laffy. ;D

As a young lad a strong memory was that in 1988 he kicked out from full back. The kick went 10m and straight to Bernie Evans, then Bernie Evans from Carlton missed from 15m directly in front. That was a strong memory for most likely being the worst minute of football ever. And we won that game in a huge upset. I would love to see a clip of that on YouTube.

I thought he came to the Club as a forward actually.

HT, that is my recollection also about Ghost.
Similarly, Barry Richardson was initially a forward but played some stellar footy at FB.
And we all know Dickie Clay was a premier wingman who eventually extended his career by becoming a very good and long-kicking fullback.

Dave can also play upfront as his 4 goal debut proves. He could be the Tiger version of Harry Taylor

Actually you could right but definitely did finish up in the back half.
Played most of his career at CHB from my recollection, but played CHF in the 1980 grand final and finished his career at FF in the twos, kicking 9 goals in his last game after declining a farewell match in the seniors.

I recall The Ghost being more of CHB than a FB, but he was one of the original swing men too, able to pinch hit a mark and goal as a CHF.

Yup i'n Ghost's day Francis Bourke was filling full back more often than not. Alan Martello was holding that position when Bourke took over as coach. Somewhere around that time Steve Pirrie looked like he was going to be a 10 year full back for us until he did his knee and ended up at Essendon.

Another good test for Davo tomorrow , have confidence he would do well on Hale, Roughy after a quiet one may be a bit more of an assignment. Hopefully the mids can help the backs out for a change

Roughy seems a little out of sorts at the moment, be another nice "sad scalp" for Dave perhaps

Be nice if Dave could kick as long as The Ghost could. Great long kick.

Yep. The Ghost was an olden days Justin Leppitch, but dirtier. Always used to arrive at The 'G in his flanny.

Ahhhh, they were the days!

Yes they were, and in those days the subject of this thread would barely have been good enough to earn a spot in the Richmond Reserves side of that era.

Very true. Flanny and faded old levis and workboots.
