David Astbury, Thank You

Not a great game on Brown IMO, but so what. He's our best gorilla option and good on him for that. So regardless of the performance its all about the L&D. We can't afford $800K for Frawlydud so its develop our own.

I was worried for Dave as it was a tough choice between him and The Griffin for my presidency but Big Ben needed it more. Glad to see that in some cases it truly is the thought that counts. Great improvement so far this year.

I know Brown marked a few last night but really like they way Dave spoils. The 195cm defended we have been badly lacking... Be useful next week and with no Buddy, we wont miss Rance as much,

Dave is always a yard behind his man, he is too slow, he will need to work on other parts of his game, if his man kicks straight, Dave pays.

Waite kicked poorly or he would have had 4 kicked on him.

Jones out marked him all day

Cloke was well held, however he has done nothing all year.

Brown kicks 4

Is David really going as well as the stats make him out to be?

As far as backmen go at RFC I would select Astbury first before Chaplain, Grimes, Morris, Newman or Houli.
Much can be read into the fact that Astbury is the Tigers leading defender.

Ans: Probably

Q: Is he really going as badly as you seem to be suggesting/implying?
A: IMO - no

He has played only a handful of games. He will have his ups and downs and last night he had a downer. Worth persisting with.

If your downer is having 4 goals kicked on you by J Brown in his 250th while receiving absolutely no support from your fellow defenders or mids, then he's doing pretty well IMO

Really liking his progress.

Was good against a man mountain in Brown but made him contest one on one and will improve.

Agree.

We have effectively unveiled a backline stalwart for the next 8 years.

I couldn't be happier for Dave, I am absolutely rapt. He has somehow re-discovered his closing speed after two years of recovery.

Not only will he make it, he'll be the first successful homegrown FB since Scotty Turner. Amazing.

Credit to him and the club.

Pretty sure Scotty came across from Melbourne.
