David Astbury, Thank You

Don't worry about Astbury I've got him down to be a long term important player to our team and structure. Just needs an injury free run. I'll back him anytime.

Am surprised that Astbury has been dropped / injured due to leg soreness.
His performance last week was way up on Grimes so his omission is strange. Also strange for an 'injured' player he has been called up in the Coburg team for Port Melbourne.

Daves injury the way he described it sounded horrible, imagine having your muscle contract so severley that it rips and I say again rips your knee cap out and blows all the ligaments - sheesh that's some force !

He's playing like it was a very bad injury unfortunately. Thought he was extremely sluggish against the Blues.

Cloke has Dave covered I'd think.

cloke has most defenders covered when he decides to play like he has a pair. im just thinking forward and we cant afford to let him go all day on rance or chaplin, they just dont match up well on him as we saw in round 5, where i think astbury may be a better match up deep. theres no doubt his major weapon is his smarts and body work one on one.

What do we think about Dave?

For mine I just can't see him making it. Okay mark and an okay kick. However he doesn't possess enough speed or mobility. He's not very strong but thats something that can be improved.

For mine he's a trade or delist.

Around 8(?) years ago, Troy Simmonds had a breakthrough year - and was close to AA selection. We learned during thhe year that he hired a sprint coach over summer to improve his speed over the first 10 metres. it transformed him.

Dave has many attributes to be a very good footballer. His speed is an issue. Perhaps he can improve this area with targeted coaching?

If he was 20% faster would be amazing. Unfortunately he's not and it's the one thing that holds him back. Sad because it wasn't so evident before his knee injury. Maybe could play at CHF?
