David Astbury, Thank You

He'll probably get a guernsy this weekend,so a massive opportunity to cement a spot awaits for the young fella.

Pleasing aspect today is that he came in and according to the commentators played really well - hope he gets two or three more games to cement his spot as he could be important come finals time.

He was pretty good, when he got to the contest. Beat Gunston. But he's still sleeeooooooow.

Yeah a bit, but the only time I thought he was slow today was I think in the second quarter when he was running back with the flight and was beaten there by his opponent. Then realised this was Isaac smith who is a running machine. I'm not too worried about it, if he can string some games together he will be fine. Chaplain isn't quick but positions himself correctly so that he can make the contest. This is what Dave needs to aspire to, as they are similar in size.

With some luck he could turn into a very good back man for us. Keep it up Dave :clap

can only beat what you're asked to and much rather he did well against the top side than a bottom side. I reAlly hope he comes on as he has good skills.

Smith is quick but he gave Dave 10m start in a 20m sprint and beat him by 15.

Did a very good job. And played better than most would expect. Was a good fit for our structures today. If only he played last week.

Today his best game?
Can't remember a better one in his disjointed career.
Thought he earnt another week, 'cept Grimes is probably ready now.

Was okay today.

Has some impressive size about him and obviously skill. He a shame if he can't be moulded into a player forward or back.

Good to see that the club's development of players in the twos is working, including of talls - if players want to develop.

Also good to see that the club's practice of taking some players who were forwards and developing them into backmen is also working - again, if those players want to, and have it in them, to develop.

I am ducking my head in anticipation as I write this post

It was a serviceable game by Dave but I get the feeling he,ll be out of the side in a few weeks.

Maybe it's only started properly under Dimma's reign. Being too long and too slow IMO, and I'm still not convinced until we see Elton, Ast and Griffo get regular games to cement their spot in the 1sts.

Question,

That kick that he landed beautifully about 5 mtrs in front of Ellis for him to run on to with a Hawthorn opponent in hot pursuit, was it a well weighted kick intended for Ellis to be able to grab without breaking stride or was it a miss kick?

Astbury will be playing for rest of the year. If Tiges play Collingwood in first week of the finals they reckon he will at least has the size and shape to compete with Travis Cloke as Rance and Chaps are undersized compared to big Clokey.
