David Astbury, Thank You

22 years of age. Has time on his side, still getting over a horrific injury.

True, hope that's the reason why he looks a bit slow.
Don't remember him being that slow in his first season with us.

I'm an Astbury fan but I thought he looked a bit out of sorts yesterday. That's to be expected in his second game back.

In saying that, looking at Markovic's stats, 2 kicks, 7HB, 3 marks, 0 score. Astbury didn't excatly get his pants pulled down.

Yeah, give me Astbury any day over Markovic. 24yo, spoils well but that's about it. He's nobody's idea of a forward.

Huge mistake not going with Astbury. We needed a third tall in defence or even up forward. We need to have a good look at him before Grimes comes back.

Post, Astbury, Griffiths, Elton..

Boy do we need some of these guys to come on.

I've got big doubt on Astbury and BG at this point. One or both may struggle to stay on the list for next season.

We struggle to decide whether our kpps are forwards or backs. We move them back and forward and never give them a chance to be famous for one or the other. It happened with Post, it has been happening with Astbury and Griff and this year has happened to Elton.

Dave hasn't been the same player since we weighed him down with the Number 12

Hasn't happened with McBean..
Perhaps they're just struggling to make an impact in any position.

Due to Astbury's lack of pace, the only position I see him playing is Chappy's role on the gorillas. Whether he has the poise to play that role is yet another question.

Be interesting to see if they keep Griff... at some stage something has to give, on talent the temptation is to keep him but he isnt even showing signs at the lower level.

We normally give them a year in one position and then chop and change them from year 2....let's see if we can stifle McBeanbag's development too next year.

Reckon this is about right. Impacting as a key forward is a damn sight harder than playing key back which is why most of our talls seem to gravitate to the backline. It's not a coincidence that McBean has remained forward. He impacts the game.

Sunday showed the value having three big guys in the forward line can bring, and also the problems that same structure causes our backline.

Hence, an AFL standard key defender and key forward are needed to come from Astbury, Griffiths, Elton and McBean.

Spot on BT

Yep, we remain deficient both forward and back. We need consistency and up forward really it is only Jack and even then he has his moments. Vickery needs to impose himself more on games. Following shoulder reconstruction, it is not surprising 2013 has been an up & down year for him, but 2014 is going to important for him. It needs to be a breakout year for him. We are crying out for a 3rd forward option - we have our fingers crossed for McBean who will have another preseason behind him come 2014. McGuane and A.Edwards are just biding time.

Back six have done a good job this year, but we were exposed by the Swans last week and the Hawks will expose us again this week. We need another lock-down defender to assist Rance & Chaplin who are vulnerable when opposition teams have multiple tall options to go to.

Dimma intimated that he made a mistake in selection for the Swans so lets hope he gets it right this weekend and Astbury gets a game he deserves. Mind you with Pettard out he should get a game. He will get better with a good run in the firsts providing he doesn't continue to be a bit injury prone.

Was probable thinking it was going to rain.
The only placed it rain that day was in my heart. :(

Dave looked great in his first as did Batch thought we had selected well but meh since. Hopefully they are just maturing with big things to come.
