David Astbury, Thank You

Reckon there will be some disappointed people when Astbury resurfaces. Was struggling big time before his injury.

Seems to be in the category that he gets better the less he plays.

True, good first year but struggled in his second year.

Third year for a kpp who missed 12 months of football. Think people are going a bit early on Astbury.

Sorry

I don't think Astbury has a bright future, forward, back anywhere, he has nothing outstanding about his game.

Not a defender - has to tried up forward.

Agree.

Responsible for some direct turnovers resulting in goals today. Needs to be shifted from defence.

I am not disagreeing, but Astubry apparently had big raps from the club.

Got the No.12 after all.

Does he need more time to get over his injuries, or is he really a dud as some would suggest?

Dud is clearly too strong. "Unlikely to make it" is more accurate. It was his form before his injury that was a concern.

He's going okay for being 12+ months out. I'd like it clarified whether or not he had a knee reco though. Some say he did, some say he didn't.

He's a good kick off both feet generally and a good decision maker. Don't judge him based off a couple of mistakes at pitiful Coburg. His problem though is his athleticism or lack thereof and agility. Lucky he does have a bit of composure or he would really struggle. If Chaplin comes across and Griffiths moves forward I struggle to see where he fits in unless for injuries next year. I'd start to develop him as a forward as he's too slow to keep up with forwards who lead. He has time and is contracted to the end of next year I'm pretty sure. I reckon he will be around for awhile and given his injuries there's no rush and no point making big statements about his long-term future just yet.

I reckon Dave is on a hiding to nothing at the moment - he's surrounded by a group of young Coburg players and a handful of our rookies in the back line. There are no senior players down there to give him a chop-out. Plus, due to Coburg playing pretty poorly he is seeing plenty of the ball down back and with little senior support he's bound to have some errors and poor decisions become part of his game.

First year was very good.

Second year started showing signs of carrying the Number 12 and wasn't great. Add in the famed RFC 2nd Year Blues and the fact he's a tall into the mix and a drop off in form is to be expected.

Then he blows his knee. He's out for close to 18months and only just started playing again.

And people are calling him gone already ?
