David Astbury, Thank You

Reckon there will be some disappointed people when Astbury resurfaces. Was struggling big time before his injury.

Seems to be in the category that he gets better the less he plays.

We have got a few of those jb.

Think he struggles a bit one on one as a reactive player (backman), and in an interview he even acknowledged it. He looked great early up forward as a lead up forward, and everything I have seen him do down back since hasn't changed my thinking he is a forward. This game two years ago playing back on Cornelius he was towelled! He's got a bit better when he can play loose. All adds up for mine.......................

Can't play him CHF though. Cloke will be there. ;)

If the club reckons it can get clokes signature then we should look at a package including astbury or post to go to the suns for Caddy.

I'm with you on Caddy, but I doubt both Astbury and Post wouldn't get the job done. Our perspective doesn't matter to them.

Actually looking at it from the opposite it seems to me that he gets worse the less he plays with some. In 2010 he looked a really good prospect. Whilst I don't expect him to be a superstar if he plays seniors I strongly believe he has ability and as a 21 year old 195cm KPP he has time on his side.

It's a matter of which Astbury do we believe is the real one. The promising 2010 version or the struggling 2011 version. I would just like us to play him and find out.

Reckon if he puts in a half decent performance this week Sin, we'll get the chance to find out soon enough.
hope so. i would play him ahead of Post myself and definitely ahead of McGuane.

The kid could play and he deserved a chance at senior level, thats all us Contin fans are saying.

Yet no other recruiting team in the 18 afl clubs agreed with you.

At least gourdis got a couple of games. Contin didn't even make it off the rookie list.

Recruiters always get it right dont they :hihi

If you dont even think Contin deserved a shot in the seniors when his form was clearly worthy, then good luck to you.

Well Baloo, that puts you in esteemed company with Dimma and the coaching panel in not thinking Contin deserved a shot. But hey, what would they know.......

.... and the other 17 clubs.

I never saw Contin play, but reading the Coburg reports I never understood why people were so gungho on giving him a game.

I think there is an element of people want certain players out of the seniors at all costs that they start to champion Coburg players simply because there is a belief they can't be worse than what we have. Gourdis was another example of that. As was Meyer.

I've got my fingers crossed on both post and astbury because we really need everyone to click. We have 42 players including injuries and probably only 20 something are genuine afl prospects

Do you think a few games at the end of a year when he has missed so much footy will tell us much?
While i would love to see him get some games this year and play well, if his fitness or confidence isnt there i dont know that it will be beneficial for him.
