David Astbury, Thank You

Look the kid is a very good footballer who suffered a pretty devastating knee injury and is fighting his way back. Talls take a little longer to develop let alone if they have significant injuries. If it takes 18 months so be it.

I still dont recall what his knee injury actually was can anyone tell me.

Then id have a better idea what the issues may be and maybe shed some light on it.

From what I gather he didn't play on the weekend...does anyone know if he's injured or not?

Has a hammy. Pretty typical for a young bloke with so long out of the game.

It's all about getting himself right for pre season from here for Astbury. Don't expect to see him in the seniors this year.

"yep that's what I thought too, but I think there was a bit more damage than a usual knee cap injury! "

True. That's what I believed as well !
Now a hammy. Put David away in cotton wool and get him ready for 2013 !

For those who didn't see the Coburg game today, Astbury showed some good signs.

Took some good contested marks from opposition kicks and his disposal was generally good.

Would like to see him play forward though.

I saw some of the game. Despite the lack of pressure from up the field he still went well down back. Looked a cut above, to be honest.

His man Edwards had 14 marks kicked goals and had 28 touches to go with it. I am pretty sure he will be disappointed with his performance as it definitely was a drop off from the game before Vs Werribee. 1 on 1 in marking contests is where he really needs to work.

Has some neat skills but his has been his major problem for a while. I'd like to see how he goes as a forward because I am concerned about his defensive work.
Also looks a bit slow still. 26 touches doesn't really mean much when the ball is down your end of the field all day.

Astbury did ok , wasn't exactly playing on any old bum!
Edwards is a very good lead out forward & thats the exact area that Astbury needs to work on after being out so long.

Still a lot of work needed in his leg speed area to be at that AFL level.

Its not forgotten though that whilst everyone else was away holidaying this kid was at the club working hard to get back on the field.

All best Dave keep working hard.

Aaron Edwards is one of the last blokes id be matching Astbury up on, Edwards has great toe off the mark and is a spring healed jack, not surprised David had issues keeping up with him.

At AFL senior level this match up would never happen.

In a terrible team, I thought Astbury looked ok. Seems to have recovered from his injuries.

I'd much rather see him groomed as the CHF option that we so desperately need especially as Griffiths seems more suited down back. The match up on Edwards wasn't the right one but that probably further highlights why we need our own VFL team. Shame we have wait one extra year.
