David Astbury, Thank You

No issue with putting weight on through the core, commented before he looked very top heavy early in the year.

Affected his mobility & then confidence ILO.

He put on 9kg in the off-season. CC admitted it was too much too soon.

Poor management. 5kg's-6kgs a year is about the max a player can put on without causing him grief. Not sure how this happens.

Astbury should be watching Ben Reid at Collingwood. Playing that type of role. Dare I say, Reid is in Collingwoods best 2 or 3 players in 2011. And his kicking is so improved. A real weapon from the back half. Massive improver. But still quite comfortable with what Astbury has produced thus far.

Needs a summer running and only 3-4kgs on the frame.

It's easy to forget how impressive this kid was in his first year. Hopefully things line up for him next year.

Very very good player is Reid. Likely AA CHB this year.

Remember watching him play for Williamstown in his 1st or 2nd year. Leysy wouldnt have given two bob for him. Thought WTF were Collingwood doing drafting this guy. Was soft, scared & unskilled.

His developments been massive from then to now.

Looks like he will be a better version of Harry Taylor. More speed and similar aerial ability. Love the way he fights for front position and goes for his marks. Talented pair those Reid brothers.

Played 8 games in his first 3 years . I mentioned elsewhere I was with a collingwood supporter watching Willy play Coburg years ago and both he and Nathan Brown were playing for Williamstown and he was cursing the recruiters for picking up two duds.
Astbury will be a very good player imo . He is a footballer not an athlete .

It happens out of desperation due to poor list management. Was entirely unreasonable to expect a 2nd year KPP to hold down a key defensive post.

Some kids can slap on heaps of size in a short space of time when they first hit the weight room, no big concern. Now the fitness guys know how his body reacts to gym work they can get him doing more boxing, swimming, rower etc..where his strength won’t suffer and he can build his cardio.

Post seemed to struggle last year after putting on more bulk - in ideal world they both would have played most of their footy in the VFL, learning their positions and bulking up along the way(although I realize Post has spent plenty of time there).

Glad to see Post getting games, but he certainly has lot to learn and has to think and act quicker!!

Hopefully Dave recovers well and has a big preseason.

I see the comparisons with Reid here and remember that Pies supporters were worried about Reid until his 3rd year. Bigger guys just take longer to come on. Astbury will work it out, he's still the best bet the club has for CHB in the future for mine.

Not sure if it would be club directed but the boy shows some dedication already training. Running laps at Punt Rd while your team mates are travelling and partying the world wouldnt be the greatest feeling.

With his attitude he just might make it

Wow bloke looks like he's put on some grunt in the upper body department.

Very excited about this kid for next year.

Reminds me of James Hird.

I am very confident that David will be a ripper for us. He was a little dissappoiting this year before he did his injury, maybe he put on too much bulk which effected his agility/pace, i don't know, but he has all the tools/skills to become a great KPP for us. I personally think he can be a gun FWD also. He played his junior footy up forward im pretty sure and kicks it well, marks well and is quick in the mind; like to see him on the lead again, can't recall if he has that burst of speed to lead up as a forward should. I remember a few occassions of him being aware of what was around him before obtaining possession and flicking quick little handballs and sidesteps to give it off to a team mate. He is a well skilled big man. Here's hoping he can fully get over his injury and get a big preseason in aerobically to show what he's got.

GO TIGES!!!

Really rate this kid, keep up the hard work Dave it WILL pay off in the long run .
