David Astbury, Thank You

Reckon the club made a bit of an error with Dave this season.
Should improve in 2012 and looks like he's doing everything in his power to make sure he does.
Good kid.

Ashbury has shown enough to say that he will be a very good footballer,
People need to look at Reid at Collingwood, he was the laughing stock after the Carlton game at the MCG a couple years ago and now he is properly the best CHB in the comp.
Ashbury & Griffens need time!!

We're waiting on David to answer some questions from PREnders. It should give an interesting insight when he responds.

He played his first game against Melbourne as a forward and didn't look too bad, but from then on he's been mostly used as a defender, it's not a bad problem to have.

He has been hitting the weights!

Compare the vid above with this...

Nice to see a Tiger with a bit of beef!

:clap

Astbury probably put on too much weight too quick last year. Hopefully the club is closely monitoring his weight training that he's doing by himself.

Once the heavy running starts he will drop the excess. But rapt to see he has put on some beef.

Skinny McGuane like defenders are a thing of the past...hopefully. As Benny Gale referred to them as "skinny hipped kids" these types never get big/strong enough to be able to compete with the monsters.

Article in the press today with Astbury flexing his guns and talking about his off season program.

His 2nd season was decidedly underwhelming before his knee injury so he'd be hoping for improvement this year. No doubt too much was expected of him by the club and it was a case of 2nd year blues if there ever was one. Looked slow last year in defence after seemingly bulking up too much but despite this struggled physically on the bigger bodied forwards.
Will be interesting to see how he's used in 2012 and whether he can take his game to another level.
I like him as a footballer and think he can still be a player but expectations have been watered right down from this time last year.

It was a pity he got injured because I saw him at Coburg just before and he had started to look like he was getting into some form . I do agree that he maybe got too big but as a 195cm KPP there is always a fine line between size and mobility .
What I like about Astbury is that he is a natural footballer who does everything well but 2012 is a key year for him.

Saw David, Derickx, Conca and Browne last night out at a restaurant and Astbury was unfortunately on crutches with is knee bandaged.

Was quickly walking to the MCG on boxing day, just got there for the first session and on the way past Punt Road, noticed the sole figure of David Astbury running laps of punt road oval. Moving very well, no bandages. Might also have been working off some xmas turkey.

No a massive strory but though I'd share that.

Go Tigers

IMO post is miles ahead of astbury for chb. Astbury is massively overrated on this website. Taylor walker kicked seven on him an he is barely a B grade player

I find Post and Astbury to be at about the same point. I do agree, a bit, in terms of Astbury being overrated. But if I had to take my pick i'd choose Astbury, but purely because I believe Post has had long enough to show was what he's got and im just not sure he has what it takes.

I don't agree with Taylor Walker being a B grader, he's and A grader who is only going to get better. Would love him in tandem with Jack in the forward line.

The jury is still out on Astbury but to write a 20 year old 195cm KPP off on the basis of one performance in his first year is laughable.

Did you rate him when he kicked 3 goals in his first game against Melbourne?
