David Astbury, Thank You

May be best to hold off on the assumptions that he is out for the season, I have yet to see any official confirmation of this.

I know its bad timing and the kid has potential but he appears slow and has no body presence. This injury will prob make him slower and stiffen his development. If a club came knocking with an offer too good to refuse or led to us getting a player we need i would seriously consider it !

Dud! Delist!

i know its a sour way of thinking of things... but every club has season ending injuries... its prob better for a young kid in the middle of 2nd year blues to take one for the team then someone primed and flying....richo said the sunday flashback program that he was lucky he did his knee when he was young.... good luck astbury..... with plenty of spare time to pump the gym, he will come back twice the size and hopefully better for the experience

My 17 yr old son did his kneecap exactly the same way playing school footy in 2009, missed 6 weeks, had physio etc, was still no good until mid-2010, and had little confidence in his knee until this year. Took him to an ortho surgeon just after it happened and he basically advised strengthening exercises until knee felt strong again. Also, he said there is no evidence that this type of injury should happen to him again, and if it did it could just as easily be the other knee.He classed it a bad luck "*smile* happens" injury, could happen to anyone at any time.

Fine young player David and will be very important in the years to come. Good luck.

RFCs No.12s and the left hand fwd pocket at SCG don't seem to see eye to eye when it comes to knee injuries :(

Dunkley was the man responsible for Richo's injury. I will never forgive him for being the cause of Richo's knee.
Speaking of Richo... he made it possible for a man to love another man. Legend.

I had the same injury on my right knee multiple times, after I finished playing I had a patella release surgery done, which I should have done much earlier as it fixed the problem (touch wood).

I found that no amount of leg (quad, calf, hammy, etc) work made any difference. I think Raines and Hislop have had the same injury whilst with us, so they should know the drill.

In contrast Darryn Cresswell dislocated his patella some years ago and either went back on the ground in the same game or perhaps the next week.
Wasn't Cresswell the one who sat on the ground straight after he'd popped the cap and just smacked it back into place?
Pretty sure he'd had a loose knee for a while and was just used to it.
Had his leg bent while he was knocking the cap back into place and the doc said later that it would have been much easier with the leg straight.

Thats Cresswell for you.

Interesting season for Dave. Was pumped up a lot and looked very good in his first year (considering expectations) coming in and kicking 3 goals in his first game then switching to CHB/3rd tall. Good kick, good footy brain and a good size. Probably didn't show a lot of defensive work in regards to negating a player but could play the floating tall well and chop off opposition kicks. 2nd year to be honest I thought he was pretty ordinary but that happens to kids sometimes then he copped his knee injury. Will be interesting to see how he goes year 3. Not sure where his best position is. He's almost the forgetten man.

Yep many had him pencilled in pre season as our CHB but he looked all at sea in he early games after appearing to bulk up too much in the off season and noticeably struggled in the one on one contests.

Has time and would be eyeing Post & Miller's positions for next year.
