David Astbury, Thank You

astury is a better allround footballer IMO, he is faster, smarter and better user of the ball than post however post probably has better hands.

Post will be a slow developer, a bit like Rance and maybe he is 2 years away, astbury is my tip to have a breakout year this year. Last year astbury built his body up but he was still a boy adjusting, he just needs some confidence in his new frame.

IMO post is miles ahead of astbury for chb. Astbury is massively overrated on this website. Taylor walker kicked seven on him an he is barely a B grade player
Pretty ordinary observation here on all points made. To single out one performance is a joke. There is no doubt Astbury has some work to do, but so does Post. Both are tall KPPs who will take some time. Both have enormous growth and improvement in them. Patience is required.

Was quickly walking to the MCG on boxing day, just got there for the first session and on the way past Punt Road, noticed the sole figure of David Astbury running laps of punt road oval. Moving very well, no bandages. Might also have been working off some xmas turkey.

Good work.
No doubt put on too much size, too quickly last year and struggled big time.
Looking forward to seeing what a slimmed down DA can provide in 2012.

Astbury has the potential to take his footy to the next level.

Disagree on assessment between Post & Astbury, reading this thread I disagree he is overrated here.

You sure about that? I may have been away for that game. Which exact game was it Chriso?

Totally agree with you Disgustin, Astbury has the size ,talent and above all the"tude" to be a very very good player.

Big hopes from him this season

I think you're a bit confused mate.
Walker has kicked 2 goals in 2 games against Richmond
The only time Walker has kicked 7 goals in a senior game was for North Broken Hill in a gf aged 17 in 2007.
As a 21 year old he has plenty of upside in his game.

had the pleasure of meeting David at Richos testimonial dinner. He is one together kid and it has shown since he walked through the doors of punt road. His attitude to life and football is just what you want in a kid.

All that said, I think he is 3 years away from making a position his own. 2012 will be a building block season for him as will 2013 but come 2014 i would like to think he has established himself within the first 22.

There is no reason why he cant make genuine contribution given his attitude for the game.

That's my opinion mate!

Ohh a preseason game. That makes all the difference. I think we beat hawthorn in one of those.

Belted Geelong in one as well. They mean jack shizen, can't believe someone is writing off a young KPP tall off the back of a hit out at VISY Park. Get a grip.

Hope he can regain his early form. Don't see why he can't. I'm a law of averages kind of guy. Of Astbury, Post and Griff, you'd say 1 will probably come on, 2 might come on, all 3 probably won't come on.

Interesting isn't it snakey - of that three, two have had serious enough injuries to curtail their development, while the other seems to struggle for stamina. If the injury gods and medicos smile, I think I know which two have the best chance.

The club must have seen something to have given him Richo's number. That's a fairly large burden to put on a kid, and he must be able to live up to it. He does seem to have a very mature head on his shoulders.

Give him time. I think he's ahead of Post, definitely at the same age.

I think everyone saw the early potential.
They were big shoes to fill though and if any player has ever had 2nd year blues, Dave sure did.
In saying that expectations were too high.

I'm in the camp that says he should be left to play a forward role where he caught a lot of eyes with his proactive ball sense. Was good on the lead, nice hands and played OK below the knees.

Obviously coach and match committee saw otherwise, but all the games I've seen him play back, it just didn't seem to suit or work. Recall vividly him being easily out manouvred in the goal square a few times by Cornelius no less at the Gabba. Occurred in other games I watch on TV.

Just seems better suited to making his own play than checking someone elses. Having said that, no reason why he can't learn to have a better defensive mindset - it has made many a good forward. Definately needed more weight to be able to hold his ground - perhaps in time......
