David Astbury, Thank You

Seems to have the weight of the world on his shoulders ATM.

With Rance & McGuane back next week, possibly time to go back to Coburg for a break.

How can you justify giving Astbury games but not Gourdis?? Atleast Gourdis has some speed and size!!

Very dissapointed so far with Astbury. Needs to go back fwd or we could be stuck with another dud.
Agreed has been very disappointing.

Perhaps the 6kg he put on over summer was a bit much in one preseason.

yeah, 2nd year blues it seems. Very disapointing.

On the bright side Grimey did pretty well.

Grimey now needs to run and present as an option. Often on the kickouts he just stood in the pocket basically out of the play.

This boy has no idea, he has not touched the ball in 4 weeks, all the Hardwick b-llsh-t hype has caught up with him, prob not his fault, just poor development of another KPP

You have no idea.

Astbury is not in great form at the moment, but he hasn't exactly been killed by the players he has played on either. And he has had some big tasks lately. Will learn from it and get better with some more support around him.

Had a horror tonight, was lost and caught out of position time and time again.

Didn't know where to be and often looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

His confidence is clearly shot and needs a run with Coburg to get his head back up.

We can't afford to carry players who can barely gather 10 possessions a game for three games in a row and expect to challenge sides likely to figure in the top eight.

I'm yet to see what the fuss is about for Astbury, but have faith in the judges who rate him as a quality long term prospect.

He and Gus and Edwards Nahas had terrible games tonight, but how good was it to see the continuing development of the likes of Conca, Batchelor, Grimes, Cotchin and Martin.

Spanked again tonight, but better days ahead.

Horror night thats not the word.
Was ball watching most of the night. He looks lost. Did he play TAC or did FJ pluck him from Basketball. Great disappointment and doesn't derserve wearing No.12.

WOW some can jump of a young Key position player in his second season that has been given some big tasks.

Maybe he needs to learn by playing in the Magoos for a while. Can't play him on the likes of Cloke or Brown or Dawes. Just hasn't got the football nous as yet. Dont crucify him and us by playing him in the 1st.

Now that we have Miller we have no need for Astbury.

not worried about Astbury, just needs game time and experience like most kpps. throwing him to the magoos is a bit kneejerk.

But that's the problem isn't it, with Rance and McGuane out it has hurt our structure badly, if both of them were in he would be playing on the 3rd-4th best forward in a side but because both of them are out he is having to take on a much bigger workload then is intended.

Defensively I think Astbury has been sound, but his confidence is shot when going for the ball. Last year he was a smooth mover and rarely fumbled ...this year he is playing like a deer in headlights.

Not crucifying the kid but a run in the 2nds just to build up some confidence would be good.

He's learning how to play on a man unlike say the way Carlton are playing Watson. He can't be dropped until we have a full complement back.

The return of more experienced defenders will assist his confidence.
