David Astbury, Thank You

Has this bloke come on in leaps and bounds.

I was never a fan but in the last 18 months he has put together a pretty solid body of work.

Probably in the best ten key defenders in the game right now.

Yeh, thought he would be found out for poor athleticism but he's been great. Super above his head and cool in a crisis. Getting better at releasing the ball faster too.

Knew he would be a gun from the first game he played. Never in doubt. Will only get better. Would win a coleman or 2 if played forward. Has elite aerial skills.

Ease up lol..... A Coleman :hihi

Should have made the squad of 40 for the all Australian team. Has had an unbelievable season, has taken the opposition team's best forward most games and beat them. Disappointed for him. It's like they look at Martin and Rance and no one else. Cotch unlucky as well.

make no mistake...he is an A GRADE star..as is GRIMES...and geeee.vlastuin and b ellis arent far behind...unquestionably the best tiger backline since 1980

I was pretty skeptical on Astbury early days, he just seemed way too slow, but he has definitely improved the speed of his decision making this year.

One of our most importasnt players now and a big reason we are top 4.

Jake Lever is a good kid but to demonstrate what a season Dave has had, he has averaged more possessions and marks and I would suggest close to Lever in spoils and intercepts.

Very underrated. My daughter's boyfriend is a Geelong supporter and I suggested Astbury should have played on Taylor. His response "Who's Astbury?"

That's OK. As much as he deserves recognition, it probably makes his contract easier to negotiate / stop inflation.

Great pack mark, really happy I was wrong on Astbury, a few years back he was a liability , too slow, good to see what fitness does, I have also matured in my thinking as time has gone on.
