David Astbury, Thank You

Agree, should be AA. But then so should Optimus. Must be hard for the AA Selection committee to pick 40

Jake Lever is a good kid but to demonstrate what a season Dave has had, he has averaged more possessions and marks and I would suggest close to Lever in spoils and intercepts.

Very underrated. My daughter's boyfriend is a Geelong supporter and I suggested Astbury should have played on Taylor. His response "Who's Astbury?"
I hope that put a line through the young fellas name.

cant believe its his first final (if what I read earlier is accurate). Could have easily been in the 40 AA squad. Marking and spoiling as well as he ever has. Almost now showing why they handed him the #12 jumper.

A massive up from Chaplin in recent finals campaigns (whos best was OK) Dave is better.

When he tries to jostle / too much focus on his man, that does not play to his strengths - Crows game / Cats game. When he backs himself, he is as good of a CHB we have had for 20 years (possibly Gaspar was as good in the air but a little shorter).

If Dave has a good solid game its a good barometer to how we travel... and hopefully win

Some-one in the media yesterday said Dave was ranked below average for a defender.
Go figure.
Definitely incorrect. Saw a stat saying that he was top 3 for most one on one contest wins this season, if not leading it. Fairly certain of it.

Critical player.

The defence is an amazing Unit as a whole they are greater than the sum of their parts.

The Best backline the Tigers have had since Gaspar, Turner, Torney Cameron and the Kellaways

I thought Hawkins had the better of him, but at least he had to go up the ground to get a kick.

It's definitely a win for Dave when his opponent is forced further up the ground. He did get beaten a few times by Hawkins but played a serviceable FB role.

did anyone see his media interview yesterday? very impressive. he's more calm than all of us. this guy has leadership qualities.

Yeah saw it Ian4.

Measured.
Confident.

Goes to Paton and if he can limit his effectiveness will go a long way to helping us win.
