David Astbury, Thank You

Yep - thank God people have stopped banging on about playing Astbury at CHF.

For him to get better, it can happen....but Dimma & co. see otherwise I suppose.

Astbury has had CHB written all over him since the day he walked into the club its always been my first thought on him.

That said would be very handy pinch hitter up front in a need which is handy if ever required.

Yep. The Gaspar Theroem for Plan B.

Dave's great form this year has been a big reason for us being top 4. I didn't see it coming. best I hoped for was a depth big man, he a premium big man. rapt.

Think that was only Harry

True, he's the main one I remember saying it and bagging Dimma out for not doing it. One of the finest football minds on PRE is Harry.

EDIT Baloo beat me to it

I wasn't a big Astbury fan - however I did think he had big upside going into this year. His second half of last season was solid and I hoped he had an injury free pre-season.

Sure enough he has been really good this year - and some of his defensive marks (even in losing games) have been a highlight.

What I've noticed on two specific occasions in recent weeks (most importantly today) is he finally has the mongrel to match the muscle!

He took Toby Greene aside after the Rance hit - and left him in no doubt that he could break him in half!

Greene is a tough nut - and he hangs with the rough crowd - indeed he has a reputation as a hard/rough man - but watch the replay and see Astbury fronting him - and you sense that David was ready to snap him in half - and Toby knew IT!!

For lots of reasons Green played crap for the rest of the game - but i have no doubt that Astbury put the seed of fear in his mind!

Well done Astbury - keep it up!!!

:clap :clap :clap

Yes a few years back I thought he was too slow and 1 sided.

I am a armchair expert after all.

He has come on well this year after no injuries, amazing what fitness and confidence can do.

Good on him for proving us wrong, as I get older, I try to not be so critical.

I'd like to know Jamo's POV on Astbury since he potted him for years on this site. Would be interesting to see what he thinks after this seasons performance

Great post too, Sir

:hihi

That Jamo, posting their thoughts before they are asked for. Some serious mind reading and anticipation skills right there. Kudos.

2 weeks in a row he's done that. Last week it was Mathieson.
Great stuff.

Lucky we didn't give him away for a packet of chips to Brisbane when alot here wanted to get rid of him. Gun defender and have no doubt would be a gun forward. However makes sense that he remains in the backline considering we don't want to win by 10 goals plus.

Went back and watched it and it was good by Astbury.

Also noticed why Rance bumped into Johnson. 20 seconds before the bump, Johnson dropped the knees into Rance in a pretend tackle. I used to like Johnson, but he's become prone to a real dog act now. So glad Greene had the free reversed.

I wondered what made Rance front up like that so I checked as well and you ae spot on. Just glad we have some in our playing group that don't turn the other cheek
