David Astbury, Thank You

Lovely hands and judgement in the air. Clearly playing with more confidence. That said, thank Jehovah someone has instructed those near him to provide him with a chop out short pass so the next kick or play is in better hands. When forced to kick long...it's turnover city.

A safe pair of hands and starting to use the ball effectively. The Rance / Astbury defence duo is the best in the league. No more talk about shifting him forward even though we need a marking tall in the forward fifty

I'm sure we can be creative enough to make Astbury play as a swingman like other teams do. Look at Casboult tonight.

Look at McDonald at the Dees.

Why? Just to swing when we need it.

With Tross struggling early it would have been madness to move Dave up forward. Even in the second half when Tross got back in control, we needed Dave there to keep it all together.

Yes, but Dave barely touched it late in the game when Rance was back to business again. We ran forward always relying on smalls like Butler to mark I50. Rance and Grimes work more together than Astbury and Rance. It's just a swing move to have a tall target helping a tired Jack late in the game.

We're on a charge, we hit the front, we've been very susceptible to losing games in the dying stages and you want to put our best KPD of the day into the forward line ?

:headscratch

I'm talking about when we're behind. If we still risk going small in attack and get in front OK, but it's not going to work against every team.

If Astbury was blocking forward attacks by the opposition I'd agree. But he doesn't. It's more Grimes and Rance that do it.

I wouldn't be messing with our tall backline structure personally. It's about the only setup that has worked consistently this year.
