David Astbury, Thank You

I thought he was okay last night. He played on Hogan for 3 quarters who kicked 3 goals. One was from the deliberate rushed decision, another was from a 50/50 free kick awarded because Hogan staged and the 3rd Hogan dribbled off the ground after he got very lucky lurking behind because he was complaining about the umpire not giving him another soft free kick.

Actually, will go as far to say that Astbury pantsed the bogan puffer Hogan. Luckiest 3 goal game from a key forward you'll ever see.

He's a sincere player but I'm still not sold. His awareness isn't great.

That about sums up my thoughts also, LTRTR.
Just not sure how much presence of mind he has when the heat is really on.

Reckon you nailed it. Hogan was pretty bloody ordinary n got gifted his first by the maggots. Fudged his second off a cheap free n was gifted his third by Garlett nudging *smile* off the ball when he was worried about coughing up another goal line free if he took the ball over.
There's always someone from an oppo team that's going to score some goals during a game, *smile* had a bit of a meh game but he wasn't disastrous, just copped a bit of rub of the green while he was having an average type of game.

Agree. Hogan's goals were lucky. Astbury nowhere near as bad as suggested by some considering the amount of ball coming into our back half. He's a very good defender of very good forwards.

Doing well down back. The rushed rule is a lottery unless you have eyes in the back of your head. Looked better down back then up forward. Doing his job down back better than expected leave him there

Disagree. Generally speaking I think Astbury is excellent under pressure, just wasn't his night. Has been excellent overall this season.
We must be watching a different game in that case. If you were there (I'm assuming you were), the looks on his teammates' faces were telling anytime he was near the ball.

Ashbury is going ok against the pea forward of the opposition releasing Rance vs the third forward, Grimes picking up number two
This works fine for the overall back six/7 and is why we have the least points against

The bigger problem is a second key forward, Elton?, Griffiths concussion, Chol or Soldo or Astbury and maybe Garthwaite goes as a key back.
Big calls
I expect our two 2017 first round draft picks will go for key forwards or backs to bolster our keys, replace JR over time.

He did take Hogan most of the night, allowing Rance to be the free man hitting the contest which resulted in a lot of spoils when we were under siege in the first half. But he got bodied out of the way twice by little Garlett which resulted in goals, among other misdemeanours.

Agree. Balanced.

The second free was a blight on the game, Riddles. His coach should drop him for it. Would it kill that disease Hulk Hogan to attack the ball? He's a *smile*.

EFA

Astbury gifted Hogan two goals and the umpires gave the Melbourne champion his only other goal.

Two of Hogan's goals were draggable. And droppable. (He was chatting to the umpire when he accidentally kicked the third.) Should not play ones this week. Statch would be ashamed.

Poor game by Astbury. Seemed spooked by the deliberate rule. Crucial for this week though.

Given Eltons omission it's pretty clear Dave will line up at CHF.
I like this move.

Won't work. Rob's another tall in the backline and Adelaide have Walker, Otten and Lynch forward. Adelaide best contested marks in the comp. Astbury has to play back, we don't have enough talls. To me it's obvious we are going damage on counter attack with speed into aayhem of small forwards. Don't think that will work either.

Maybe nothing will work but I hope we try to win by playing positively rather than negatively.
Astburys move up forward last week turned the game on its head. If KMac, Vlastuin, Grimes and Rance can halve defensive contests in the air we have a chance at ground level.

Let's see what happens..

Good move against almost any other team. If Rance gets Tex, maybe Grimes gets Jenkins, would leave McIntosh on Lynch/Otten..thats ok if only one of Lynch/Otten plays forward.

Maybe we expect Jenkins not to play?

I think the move to CHF for Dave will suit us(if everything goes to plan down back) he is a great judge of a mark and is an accurate kick. The team is strengthened with him in there instead of Elton.
