Had me seething tonight. Slow and attrocious.
yeah he was poor tonight and couldn't clunk one in the last either. But he has been better than expected in the first four rounds.

Went back to his all time clumsy best tonight. I lost count his many goals he cost us. Hogans 3 all came from him

He did seem contribute 12 points to Hogan's total.
People will say Hogan went alright but Dave definitely gave him 2 goals last night.

And he still broke even with Hogan. The amount of supply Hogan had it could have been a lot worse.

I will give Astbury the benifit of the doubt as he has been good in every other game this year.

overall I thought Rance and him had their worse games last night, but we won.
Rance saves his worse against Melbourne. Astbury thought he was back to 2011. Panicked with the ball all night and made blunders that could've easliy cost us the win.

Bit of a meh game from the *smile* last night.
I'll put the charity goal to Colonel Hogan down to a momentary brain fart n divine intervention from a maggot.
Didn't see the Dees tall forwards have a massive influence on the game so I'll just consider it a night where some players weren't overly suited to conditions.

Rance was one of our best

If that's was Dave's worst game then I'll take it. He still did the job and as a defensive unit he's as important as Rance and Grimes.

The problem with Astbury is always going to be that he is very susceptible when under pressure and that is unlikely to improve when the heat of finals footy is applied. Astbury will continue to be a bit of a weak link down back and further underlines RFC's need to find another tall backman.

Totally agree. Lost count of the number of times he panicked. Pace, disposal, decision making, etc. all remains questionable.

I don't understand why Dave doesn't get more love. Last night was really tough conditions for a big guy and the amount of times it came in there could've been much worse.
His body work and positioning is very good and he can take a mark in dry weather.
He allows Rance to play with freedom which is huge for our rebound game.
He can swing forward to provide a bigger body if needed, which might happen a bit more this year.
He's also played less than 70 AFL games.

I'm pretty confident seeing him down back with the ball coming in.

Our defence was phenomenal in that first half. Enormous pressure with something like 40 inside 50s.

Dave made a couple of judgement call errors but was stiff to be pinged for deliberate and was out thought by Garlett once.

Both errors were due to his fear of not rushing the ball through, not any hesitancy in attacking the ball or man or winning the ball. Probably needs to adopt the Rance pick up the ball and then fumble slide across the line pretending you are trying to attack/rebound.

There was over 20 inside 50s in the first quarter. Ball came in frequently due to turnovers coming out of 50. Thought he held up well under the barrage.
Yeah he made a couple of mistakes, however well below the highest number of clangers on the ground.

Disagree. Generally speaking I think Astbury is excellent under pressure, just wasn't his night. Has been excellent overall this season.

He did take Hogan most of the night, allowing Rance to be the free man hitting the contest which resulted in a lot of spoils when we were under siege in the first half. But he got bodied out of the way twice by little Garlett which resulted in goals, among other misdemeanours.

He's a sincere player but I'm still not sold. His awareness isn't great.
