David Astbury, Thank You

Yeah, I'm genuinely in shock. Looks like a AFL player. Still awfully slow on the lead and not mobile but he reads the game well. Gorilla only match up.

but I've moved him into the core portion of the list. No star but can fill a role.

We don't have to panic about a full back anyway, SCOOP. He may not be a premiership FB but he may be in time and we may recruit one otherwise. (Grundy is similar in lack of agility. Probably worse.) I've got the #3 back more urgent.

BTW I believe Astbury's improvement may have earned the official PRE rank of staggering.

I'm also in shock. It was a big transformation and it happened overnight, which makes me a bit skeptical about how long it can last. Here's hoping though.

Ability was always there. Unfortunately injuries and Hardwicks love affair with Chaplin hit him.

The Grundy call is apt. If you can build an A grade midfield like Sydney, it protects your backs. Been talking that way for years.

Astbury fits that mould. Gone from a country mid-weeker to a City weekender who doesn't look out of place. Makes the Hurley case less urgent and if not available for nuthin, not required.

Like most players Jack, if we build a midfield we can make everyone else look better. But we must start. This is the year. Have to protect the Ass at the back.

Yes. It would take him a while to wind up, but he'd finally hit some good form but then his knee cap would pop out and it was back to square one. Touch wood he stays fit.

Do you think Conca for Eric McKenzie would be a goer?

Lets hope he can get through the year without a major injury.
A fit firing Astbury is what we need.

Could be a very good swing man if given a chance.

Couldn't agree more, SCOOP. Not to say we don't need better runners in the back half. Assbergers can be the statue. Rance runs. Shorty does. Yarran does. All other positions are open IMO. A running #3 back takes heat of Yazzy and Shorty. (We can't be far off pulling the trigger on Chol.)

And in terms of run Miles has to be on the table. We need a props running pig. Not a static 80 kegger. If we wait a year for that so be it. But that pig should be on our radar now. We trade for that bloke. We do player trades to reshape.

Totally we should be drafting young mids for now and the future. (And the odd Eric Hipwood. Ouch!) We can't afford to be out of any National Draft.

Grimes is our #3 back, the best in the league. Miles is untouchable material jack.

My pot on each is tactical, Harry. Grimey can't bring the ball out. I know he mops up after Rance (very well) but Yarran will be doing that in future. It's possible we'll just play Yarran as #3 back. We've done it with Houli and I notice Bevo uses Suckling in the role. We'll almost certainly stick with Flossy but he can get burnt on the lead and in the air. And caught. He usually still gets it off but it's hot. We saw it again on Saturday.) He's not brisk.

Lot's of runners and kickers on the backline. Cheap leather. (It aint cheap if you can't run AND kick these days.)

Milo can't run both ways. (Either way.) Do we wanna play heat and counter? Or stick with zones? Are we going hide Milo? We're not talking about Sam Mitchell here. I now he can kick and I like him. But... do we want to play the running game?

Grimes can mark talls mediums and smalls. Mr versatile. No one else can do it. Also re miles , he's football smarts in the packs. Also don't need a team of gazelles to play running football.

Leg speed helps doesn't it?

I think they're both dispensable, Harry. Much as I like each. One can't run. The other can't kick. But they'll both stay.

We need to be adding to our top end talent, not trading them out. We have top end talent like we haven't had before in a long time, don't believe the rebuild spin coming from the club. The coach is the issue.

Not a fan of Dave at all played ok past few weeks or so but think his dum player with poor skill could you trade him who would take hm Hawks :rofl

Coach is not the issue Harry

I am of the view that Astbury may well play the occasionally good game, but his long-term value to the Tigers is a limited one. He is not a particularly dynamic or reliable player. Seems to be mediocre at best.

That's my view, Harry. We need to trade into drafts to add to it IMO.

I believe that neither Miles nor Grimes is a premiership player. Sure, they can take us to seventh.

I hate our structure too. Particularly. I hate it more than I hate Geelong's. Running backs that can't kick. Small mids that can't run.

I can understand how it got that way but it has to change.

Agree to disagree on Miles and Grimes. Easily premiership players imo. A graders.
