David Astbury, Thank You

I doubt it DDT.

Why would he have gone up to Brissie?

Manager shopping him, possibly? Do Richmond or Astbury not see a future at the Tigers? Does he see himself behind Elton?

Being played forward the second half of the year in the reserves says a lot.

Look I don't know the facts DDT. Only what we read and hear.

Agree. If this is true then Astbury has been very poorly advised by his manager and should be looking for a new one.

A 3 year deal for him at this stage of his career, with his record, is the absolute best case scenario. It's madness for him to expect more.

Greg Denhams mail is usually pretty accurate, so this is really bad by Alex McDonald. Dave is too slow after all his injuries, and he is behind Elton.

A 3 yr deal on decent money should have been grabbed with both hands. Assume the money would have been 250k - 300k. Not bad for a kid with bad knees and only a 8 week block of good form to look upon.

He will be delisted at the end of 2016 or traded off to whatever we and him can get.

Greed..the root of all evils.

Madness alright.

Greg Denham just said that Astbury was offered 3 years by Brisbane but his *smile* salesman wanted 4 years + more $$$.

I think it's time some/most players go independent and stop wasting fees on these charlatans trading them like it's the meat market.

good grief. Dave's not a kid anymore. He has to take some responsibility too. That's one of the dumber plays I've ever heard about.

Disappointing. We lost a pick here. Who knows what could happen now.....Astbury stays and restores faith with Dimma and the club or gets delisted and walks to the PSD?

The only way it's true is if Dave just didn't want to leave the state and/or believed he could get to a side like the Bulldogs instead. Or he's backing himself to break into our side.

I hope its not true and he makes his way to Brisbane for Pick 28 this year. Might then be Pick 12 and Pick 28 for Yarran and Pick 20. Get Yarran and Pick 19 & 20 would be an ok outcome I reckon.

Nah whatever happens it will be 12 (hope not) OR 19 and a sweetener. so 19 and 28 or 19 and 20 in your example.

Why then would adding a 4th year alleviate DA's concerns?

I'm guessing Dave may have deliberately priced himself out of the market with the Lions.

This site would go into meltdown if we traded a 1st round pick for a guy that's played 24 games in 5 years.

I can't imagine anyone giving up a pick 17-21 for him, surely if we were offered that we would have taken it, IMHO Daves not the answer , however not unhappy for him to be on the list for another year with where we are at.

Interesting to see what happens now. I hope he stays, but is he down in the rankings with the coaches?

I get the impression Elton may be inching ahead of him.

I believe the coaches always wanted to keep him but they understood why he might seek opportunity elsewhere. If his body holds up he is just what we need as an extra tall defender since Batchelor was shown up as a bit short & not quite good enough against North.

Looks like it. Elton was given a 2 year deal this season after just 1 last season, but hasn't been given much chance in the 1sts except for the Pies game with Beano, and Dimma spoke highly of him during the season. I reckon we're gonna see Elton and Beano in the 1sts more next season. Time for them to blossom.

Hopefully they will, but I'm quite happy to give Astbury another year to see if he can regain his full fitness, confidence and form.
Not that optimistic, especially since Brisvegas seemed to cool on him post-medical, but (and here's where the ruthless disagree) he is obviously a top bloke and popular clubman. Maybe he can still come good - it would be worth it for early 2014 form, but significant knee injury stopped him in his tracks again.
Just dodge those stingrays down the beach!

Yeah, I'd rather keep him as talls are difficult to find. I liked his form in 2014 and could've shown it again this season, but that stingray injury obviously made him lose time and faith with Dimma someway, and we haven't seen much of him in the 1sts.
