David Astbury, Thank You

I have inside info that Astbury failed his medical at the Lions, no pick 21 for us.

I'm not sure how we land Yarran now.

Wow. If that's the case I'll say his career isn't looking too bright.

Was there a stingray under his seat on the flight going there?
His ok. His position is down back not like hardwick knows trying to make him a forward

Schwab stated today it was due to picks because the Aish deal hasn't gone anywhere. If that deal had got over the line and they had enough picks for their academy kids then he would have been in Brisbane.

Not sure if I can post the link but this is off the Lions website.

List Manager Peter Schwab effectively ruled out the prospect of Richmond's David Astbury joining the Lions on SEN yesterday.

“We were in discussions and Justin knows him well.

“We’ve also got the other factor of making sure we’ve got enough points in the system for our Academy boys”, Schwab said.

“We’ve got two very good players this year that we think will get bid on reasonably high, so we wanted to make sure we had enough in the tank and the Aishy deal hasn’t quite gone anywhere so there weren’t enough there.

“In the end we made a call as a football club to hold fire, after a number of the deals we did (yesterday) and just wait and see.”

The 2015 Trade Period ends 5pm Thursday.

Sounds like he may well end up in Brissy

I agree, as we've traded away our 2nd next year why not ask them for a 2nd next year. We probably don't need another pick this year anyway.

Agree, makes sense.

Correct. That would be the play now.

Greg Denham just said that Astbury was offered 3 years by Brisbane but his *smile* salesman wanted 4 years + more $$$.

I think it's time some/most players go independent and stop wasting fees on these charlatans trading them like it's the meat market.

Yeah I think players have to be a bit more careful about making sure their manager is truly looking after their interests.

So he passed the medical but prefers Richmond. For what pick I wonder ?

Bris want 2016 2nd round picks (for academy players) from Collingwood for Aish so not sure they could give us one (unless that's another reason they want them)

Heard that too!

Poor judgement by Astbury but more so his manager. 3 years would have been fine!

Career for mine on the edge.

Poor poor call. Feel for the kid.

Agree. If this is true then Astbury has been very poorly advised by his manager and should be looking for a new one.

A 3 year deal for him at this stage of his career, with his record, is the absolute best case scenario. It's madness for him to expect more.

My take

It was a charade

Astbury went along with it but neither he or richmond had any intention of making it work.

What's the point of that?
