Damien Hardwick

What I don’t understand is that he mentioned the same issues from the game that we all talk about. The uncontested possessions and lack of system going forward.

But it has been going on for a long time now. So either he does not have the answers to stop not or the players simple cannot execute what he is asking.

In which case then why do we keep selecting the same players for the same result or why has he not recruited strategic assistants who can implement strategies to combat these situations?

Either way this is not good enough. Clearly.

i could accept Dimma is still a great coach and it's all down to the cattle - except that would mean we would lose consistently by 30 points plus.

If you lose 12 games in two seasons by less than a goal AND DON'T WIN ANY close games - that's coaching. Is it assistants or Dimma or both? I don't care, it needs a shake up.

He can stick his learnings up his clacker.

Yep - to lose 12 games by less than a goal in a season and a half! What’s changed - nothing!!

Same mistakes, same skill errors, same structure issues = same results. Definition of madness!

He may be teaching until he's blue in the face but the players aren't learning. Even the smartest player on the team Riewoldt isn't immune from the brain farts.

If Hardwick is too stay on then we need to change it up again around him.

New voices, new ideas.

Part of the problem is at present there are no viable back ups for Dimma. I don’t think it would have the same result, but a shake up ala the 2016 off season may have a beneficial result.

Said it before, McQualter and Clarke have had their time. Not sure how Teague is going also as our forward line was better last season.

Hardwick can coach....but cannot under any circumstances be involved in football management.
He is too technical in his game planning which he admitted was his problem in 2016 and he chooses yes men for understudies.

I actually cant see how it can be coaching?

Coaches have very little control in dying minutes.

Ive been thiinking about this trend,

And its got to be old worn out legs.

Hard work wins tight games, and theres no way the will wouldnt be there, these blokes dont just hang up the beast alpha testoterone.

Its got to be age. Half a dozen (30% of a side) blokes bodies just cant do the required work after 90 or so minutes.

No coincidence our mini false dawn came against the only side older and slower than us last week.

I think dimma is guilty of still game planning like he has a 25yo shane edwards out there,

But i dont think he has much control in defending leads,

Especially with 666.

Its more and more a young mans game.

Tiggs were beaten 3 minutes into the game .
Opp cleared the ball way to easy in defensive 50 .
Chiped it around until half way .
Tiggs allowed this to happen NO man on man ! Disgraceful planning ..

What I can't get over is how Dimma said they saw it in the Bummers 2nds team on how they will play us.....and yet we did NOTHING!!

Not manning up to stop possession based teams against us has always been frustrating - it’s what actually lost the 2018 PF as well. Allows opposition to switch and pick their way through our zone.

We also don’t pressure the opposition ball carrier with enough urgency. This is one of the biggest fall aways from the flag era when we applied manic pressure all over the ground. Effort costs nothing and re-establishing that mindset is vital, especially in the new younger players.

Effort costs nothing

Effort costs quite a bit actually.

cartlidge and ligament and tendon and bone.

Oxygen, adenine triphosphate, muscle fibre.

And most importantly,

Youth. Time. Vigour.

We are paying the bill for all our effort.

Collosal effort for 5 years,

That netted one of the greatest returns on investment,

In the history

'We'd like the bill for Our Dynasty please sir'

Keep the change

Only the players know if they're willing to continue to pay the price and achieve at the highest level, especially the older ones.

That's a factor, no doubt, but there is a mindset of keep the ball in, slow it, keep possession, don't make it a fifty/fifty etc, team instructions on how to play in that situation - consider Jack's non handball to Cotch, his toepoke, both the wrong decisions. Age should make you wiser not dumber.

I'd expect we've been drilled in how to protect a small lead, and you'll still lose some of these games... i don't expect 100%. but to lose every single game that finished by less than one goal for two years... that stinks.
