Re: Cricket

How's Ponting's form, with regards to the players being exhusted!

He has got to be kidding, I would take thier work hours (and tasks) any day over mine. They don't have to play again until the Ashes in Nov.

They're also about to have a 3 month holiday (except for the ones that have the energy to play county cricket in England!) and the better players get paid $500,000+ per year by the ACB alone. And then you add on top of that all of the sponsors money, etc.

Its a joke!

Re: Cricket

Agree entirely GR. I laugh when they complain and say they need a rest and then go and play a squllion games of cricket in England for a county side.

It's hard for me to say how taxing their schedule is but I know that I work 40hrs a week (plus another 14hrs travelling time!) for 48 weeks a year for about 1/tenth what the main players get. I don't think I'd complain too much if I were Ricky.

Re: Cricket

I think we would all like Ponting wages and time off during the off season (although it has come less).

I can though see where Ponting is coming from.
Ponting does not play county cricket much and if he does its a short 3-4 week stint.
I think he was upset with playing 5 five day tests in 5 weeks in different countries which is silly when you can the air travel between S Africa and Bangladesh with connections.

Coming straight after 7 weeks in 12 weeks and one day series around the countryside with a 1 mths break between that and the Ashes series.

In the end that would be very phyiscally and mentally draining. I know I played country week and I was struggling from 5 days of cricket in 6 days.

Yes, I played Willowfest up in Mildura and I struggled to play 2 days in a row (maybe it was the 32 beers aft the first days play!) but this is why they get $500k +. You can't stick your hand out for big bucks for your troubles then complain about it.

Me too have already emailed the AFL re members rights for the final.

Seriously will go but can contain my excitement for 9 years like you Phantom

Re: Cricket

Amazingly Cosgrove misses out on a ACB contract & Mick Lewis also misses out which is not surprising but he has certainly been judged on that 1 bad game & the games where he performed okay were quickly forgotten.Jacques has secured a contract which is good news.

Re: Cricket

Full squad

Contracted players:

Nathan Bracken (NSW), Stuart Clark (NSW), Michael Clarke (NSW), Daniel Cullen (SA), Adam Gilchrist (WA) Jason Gillespie (SA), Brad Haddin (NSW), Matthew Hayden (QLD), Brad Hodge (Vic), Brad Hogg (WA), Michael Hussey (WA) Phil Jaques (NSW), Mitchell Johnson (Qld), Michael Kasprowicz (Qld), Simon Katich (NSW), Justin Langer (WA), Brett Lee (NSW) Stuart MacGill (NSW), Damien Martyn (WA), Glenn McGrath (NSW), Ricky Ponting (Tas), Andrew Symonds (Qld), Shaun Tait (SA), Shane Warne (Vic), Shane Watson (Qld).

Also looks like Warney won't be there for the World Cup.
Has reinforced his decision to retire from ODI's.
Won't be seen in the green & gold pjs again.

Re: Cricket

Changes will come next year with retirement of Langer, McGrath and possible forced retirement of Martyn and Hayden.
Gilchrist to retire after world cup and the Aussie side to be devoid of experience in a flash.

Jaques, Cosgrove, as well as the likes of Cullen, Birt, North, Johnston ect need experience otherwise the Aussie cricket side will struggle for a whuile especially in regard to the bowling stocks.

Re: Cricket

Im gutted for Mick :'(.....hope he sticks it up 'em next season.

Dearth of Victorians as per usual, why is that always the case ?

Re: Cricket

Cameron White stiff. Could have got one just on his batting.

What does it mean anyway - all it seems to me is that the states don't pay the wages of those players.

At least not in public.

Re: Cricket

Cosgrove needs to spend less time out on the town here in Adelaide. especially during cricket season. If he was serious about his weight loss he would certainly cut down on this. Every time I go out I seem to see him somewhere either PJ O'Briens or Casino.
