What a joke. We lost :p

Mick lewis 0-113 off ten overs.

Punter, how do you lose the unlosable? :p
Why did Ponting give Lewis his full 10 overs.Good to see Hussey bat at not 4 instad of Martyn.Didn't see the South African innings as I didn't give them a chance. Can't understand how we lost.

Re: Cricket

Good thing there's a change in personnel ODI v Tests to help revive the dressing room after such an incredible result...Must have had a malfunction with the bowling machines...

Re: Cricket

Gee, what a result. Well done South Africa. Unbelievable. For those punters who follow the cricket, on Betfair $1.6 million was wagered on the Aussies at $1.01. Ouch.

Re: Cricket

And that's just Betfair... greedy, greedy people. :scold Just like those who took those odds against Bangladesh last June.

Wonder what odds you could get on South Africa between innings?

Mick Lewis now has the worst ever bowling return in a ODI.

Mick Lewis?
I watched the SA innings. He is quite simply the worst bowler we've had in two decades. No variety, one pace, half volleys and full tosses.

There's no doubting Ricky's batting ability but why Punter bowled Lewis for ten overs when he was being smacked all over the park is a bigger mystery than why he chose to bowl in the 2nd Ashes test at Edgbaston. Hell, give the ball to Gilchrist, he wouldn't have done any worse! :p His captaincy is pathetic. There is no way any of his predecessors would have let this one slip.

If Lewis is the best we've got, you can forget the World Cup right now. His contract should be ripped up.

PS: Full credit to the Saffies though. Gibbs played the innings of his life even though he had a little luck.

The number of runs scored would have something to do with the size of the ground. Wanderers is a very small oval.

Re: Cricket

Punter has two scores over 150 at Wanderers now with this one and World Cup final.

How can you not defend 435 !!!
Didnt see SAF bat thought Lee would bowl at tail only theory is the tail Lee may get quicker deflections off Lee than Lewis. The other theory is Lewis success with Victoria at couple matches for Australia bowling at the depth.

Re: Cricket

With Mick Lewis getting hit all over the park why did Ponting keep him on?Poor captaincy is all I can put it down to.

I felt sorry for Lewis actually. He was clearly out of his depth, looked intimated and was having a shocker. Who goes for 11.3 runs per over?
How Ponting could bowl him for 10 overs is astounding. He just doesn't seem to have that ability to control the flow of a game before it gets out of hand. It's going to take Ricardo a long, long time to shake the "poor Captain" tag.

Mind you Australia were screaming for the experience of McGrath last night.

Re: Cricket

There's an article on Cricinfo stating that if Pollock and McGrath had played neither side would have got anywhere near 400.

Going to be some big scores in the West Indies next year.

Re: Cricket

Are my eyes deceiving me? Is today April Fools day? How do you lose after belting a world record (not for long) score? This is incomprehensible.

Knowing the guy ToOtsie I can tell you he wouldn't have been intimidated.
He is the most competitive bloke i've ever played sport with.
Out of his depth unfortunately :(
He did have all his confidence sapped and was gutted that Bracken dropped that Soda that would have dismissed Gibbs.
He was still in resonable humour though, telling me he will now be a trivia night question for who has gone for the most runs in ODI over 10 overs!

ST,Its not that he's necessarily out of his depth. On the night he was getting hit around & Ponting should have taken him off.Poor captaincy.

Overwhelmed than Medicine Ball 64.

Im not a huge rap for Ponting as a captain (though Smith is worse) but everyone was getting a hiding last night.
Kallis even got beaten up.

Re: Cricket

I hope this is not a sign of things to come. That pitch was obviously prepared with the express intention of creating big scores. They're getting to the stage of not even needing the bowlers anymore. They may as well have just had a bowling machine down the other end for all the bowlers on both sides did. Big scores are great, but I can't help thinking that these ones were manufactured by the pitch.
