Gilchrist worries me lately. Seems too naive, both on the Cricket Show and as acting captain. After playing with Steve Waugh for years you would think he'd learn to play his cards closer to his chest. Ponting is a lot smarter these days after doing it tough in England.
Gilly naive? No, but jaded maybe.
Can't help but feel the look of enthusiam's drifted from the competitive eye of Gilly lately. He's no dummy though.
I think he's played too much cricket and it's getting the better of him a little. He's a super talent and it doesn't bear thinking about going into the World Cup without him. However I think Haddin needs to play more ODI games and let Gilly concentrate on Test Cricket in his last couple of years in the game. He carries an unbelievable workload and I reckon it's getting the better of him.

If that means going into the WC without him, so be it.

PS: I still don't rate Punter as a captain. We'll see if he's improved against quality opposition come the Ashes.

good to see katb!tch to take 28 balls to get off the mark :)
The longer they persist with this hack the less chance the Aussies have of winning the world cup.Martyn should be pensioned off also.

NEWSFLASH - somthing different from me ............

KATICH IS A DUD and he is in no way shape or form a one day player.

The guy is playing for his spot in the side not the team cause and is a nothing player, and as for Martyn he has to go to.

These two duds went a long way to losing the Aussies the ASHES, with their lack of impact in the middle order, and are both playing selfish cricket after the selectors made the mistake of telling them to make runs or forget the world cup.

I cannot stomach Katich and i dont recall in recent times a more disliked cricketer in the AUssie side.

Heres some names for the future, Cosgrove, BIrt, Jaques, North, Rogers- forget the other two duds FFS.

While i am at it why isnt Griffith from Tazzie getting a look in ahead of Johnson, and the other superdud Stuart Clark, even Lewis as he is the highest wicket taking bowler in Oz this season by quite a margin i believe.

Even Dizzy has been back in very good form and his experience is invaluable, along with Taits raw speed and unpredictability.

The Australian selectors are doing a Richmond and playing proven duds in the feint hope that they can manage to cling to success or attain success, thus stifling the development of young talent and the continued success of Aussie cricket.

Tis gonna backfire for mine and if Martyn and Katich, Stuart Clark, and the likes are picked for the WC then Australia will not win.
Agree Craig,Selectors are again showing they are not prepared to make tough decisions.I was hoping Big Merv would clear some of these hacks out but he's just become part of the furniture.

Re: Cricket

In paper today Martyn, Tait and Kasprowicz expected to be named in test squad.
Phil Jaques is on his way home, so obviously has not being selected for test squad.

Crazy sending Jaques home.Should have been given at least 1 more game & what if someone else gets injured.Well done selectors. How they could be considering Martyn for test squad is bewildering.

Re: Cricket

I like the idea of Tait in the test squad, as well as Watson and Symonds.

Hope selectors are looking at Griffith from Tassie, Cosgrove from SA and Magoffin from WA (8 for at the weekend).

Agree, the selectors should be looking to the future not the past.

Hodge has been dumped while Martyn is back in the test squad.
What an absolute joke. Not so much the Hodge omission[has lost form] but the selection of Martyn is an absolute sham

Unbelievable Skipper,The selectors are a disgrace & should be sacked.Hodge still deserved to be in side.Michael Clarke still hasn't done enough & Symonds still has not proved to up to test standard.

Re: Cricket

I know I defended the selectors earlier as they have done well in the past and will congragulate them if win in SAF and Ashes but Hodge dropped for Martyn and Kasprowicz back. On what basis I have no idea.

Also another surprise was Clark ahead of Bracken.

True MB.Least Braken is something different.Left arm.
New motto for the australian selectors in the theme of Aussie home lenders.
Past their best cricketers. At Aussie selection table we.ll save you

Re: Cricket

Recalling Martyn & Kasprowicz is not very forward thinking.

It's like the Poms recalling Cowdrey in the 70's to face Lillee & Thomson, rather than blooding someone new.

If they justify dropping Hodge because he had no Pura Cup form, why isn't Cosgrove, who has knocked up scoring runs all summer in the squad.

Hohns said Hodge's Pura Cup form is not good but what he forgot to mention is Martyn is averaging around 22.Lame excuse.

Maybe Hodge can't field either? :p

And he's not a close mate of Ponting.

Re: Cricket

The thing that really ticks me off about this decision is that since Martyn was dropped from the Test side initially, he has been batting like a player who's looked disinterested.
He's been getting out to reckless shots and been playing care free cricket like a guy who couldn't wait for his career to finish.
Yet you've got young blokes all over the country, busting their balls to get into the test side. It doesn't send a very good message.
If they're going down the "has been" route they could bring in Darren Lehmann who at least has shown form at Pura Cup level.
Not happy

Trevor Hohns on SEN now talking dribble & trying to defend Martyn's selection. His favorite saying now is we've made a "judgement call"
