Phil Jaques is another player who has received shabby treatment.A half baked excuse that his fielding wasn't up to scratch stopped him being picked for 1 day side in SA.This bloke is young & has a real future but the selectors are going for a hack like Kattich ahead of him.

Could possibly understand this call if , say Lehmann , had leapfrogged Hodge & Martyn , as despite his age (he retired himself from international cricket prematurely imo,possibly a response to Hookes tragedy) , he's been in good nick & brings guile to the team but Martyn , no . Hohns claims Martyn hasn't had many chances in Shield cricket to advance his cause are weak. Could argue he had more than enough chances when in the Test side previously.

Agree. It smacks of jobs for the boys.

Murali picked up another 5 for against Bangaldesh. Now on 598 test wickets.

Warney should pick up 20 if he plays both test in Bangladesh later this year.

If Murali gets the most wickets in any form of the game, in brackets next to his figures should be what % of them were against Bangladesh and Co.

Martyn - just an experienced backup in case of disorder.

What nonsense about Hodge.He deserved to go on tour.Martyn is not seen as a backup as Hohns said he will bat at 4.

Martyn is finished Katich is very poor in fact he is a hack and yet these hacks are still persisted with i am lost and in a spin over this very very ordinary selection, and i for one think losing both series to SA will bring about the neccessary changes with Martyn, Katich, Clarke Stuart, to never play for Aus again.


Nothing against Hodgey but i am of the opinion the boys had his papers stamped and will not play for Australia again. Thjere is a belief i feel amongst selectors that Hodgey bit sus against short stuff ala Bevan, i do not have an opinion bout this as i have not seen enough of Brad to form an opinion.
Think hes got the Bevvo treatment.

Sometimes Phantom you can still make runs in the 2nd innings under pressure like Hodge did to win the match, also Martyn is not there as back up but NO 4 batsman. If we base the selction on this logic what the hell is Symonds doing in the team as he has only got 1 sixty in the 2nd innings and he has is not a bowler and as for Bevan please he is worse than Katich as a test batsman, anyone frightened of Andy Caddick as a test batsman should never play for their country. A squib in the Justin Murphy mould.

Hodge is not the answer at #4 for Australia. Even Merv Hughes apparently knows that. If Hodge wants to blame someone all he has to do is look in the mirror. He had his chances in the Pura Cup and blew them. The selectors went back to Martyn because he is proven at Test level. They obviously also think Clarke has more potential at Test level than Hodge offers.

Sorry we did not win the match but that was not Hodge's batting fault, Hodge scored 203 off 332 balls. The bowlers had 4 sessions to take ten wickets and failed. Hodge came in at 3-129 only 80 runs ahead. Martyn is proven but in poor form and Hodge can say he is proven with an average of 58.
