Re: Cricket

Third and Final Test, Lahore
England won the toss and elected to bat
England 248/6 (Collingwood 71no, Vaughan 58, Trescothick 50; Shoaib Malik 3/58)
Stumps, day one

England threw away the advantage gained by an opening stand of 101 between Vaughan and Trescothick as they strive to square the series. Things could have been a lot worse but Paul Collingwood posted his maiden Test half-century in what some pundits were nominating as his final chance to secure a long-term Test career. He will resume on 71 with Shaun Udal on 10.

Hodge is not up to it and should be banished.
Looked all right in his first test, worthy more of a go. One failure does not mean his up to it just like one top innings does not make a batsman. I hope they give him an extended run at.
Symonds is expendable has no idea on test cricket.

Re: Cricket

the umpiring decisions always go the way of the aussies, west indies should complain

England 288 (Collingwood 96)
Pakistan 185/4 (Mohammad Yousuf 84no; Hoggard 2/22)
Stumps, day two

Pakistan are in a reasonable position after recovering from 68/3 to be 185/4 when bad light stopped play (yet again -- what a farce). However Pakistan will be hoping for the return of Inzamam, who was struck on the forearm by Harmison and had to retire hurt. No word on the X-ray as yet.

Re: Cricket

Geez it looked dark at the end of the game. It even looked dark when they came out after tea. Why don't they start earlier?

Re: Cricket

Don't know. I think it's just a case of too far north too late in the year. Suppose there's rules concerned with starting too early in the morning, but bad light has stopped play pretty much every day of the series.

Re: Cricket

I think it gets darker there because Pakistan is close to the equator!!!
The ICC are thinking of have 6 day tests in Pakistan to fit enough overs in.

How does that work? Lahore is 31 degrees North, as far north of the equator as Port Macquarie, NSW is south.

It's only three weeks until the winter solstice, which is why it gets dark so early.

For anyone interested, today the sun rose in Lahore at 6.42am and will set at 4.59pm.

Re: Cricket

I just heard it on the radio and ran with it!!
There is a fog in the morning there till about 10 as well.

Re: Cricket

Third Test, Lahore
England 288
Pakistan 446/5 (Mohammad Yousuf 183no, Kamran Akmal 115no)
Pakistan lead by 158 runs on the first innings with 5 wickets in hand

Wait for it....... bad light stopped play! No-one happier than England who got flayed around the park. Pakistan look to have totally taken the game away from England after the 199-run sixth wicket stand, as yet unbroken and a record for Pakistan against England. England need a win and thus a miracle.

Re: Cricket

Poms have been disappointing in Pakistan but they have had a very successful 2 years. They have missed Jones but will be ready to go next summer.

Re: Cricket

BAD. LIGHT. STOPPED. PLAY. ;D

Third Test, Lahore
England 288 and 121/2 (Bell 60no; Shoaib Akhtar 2/34)
Pakistan 636/8 dec. (Mohammad Yousuf 223, Kamran Akmal 154)
England trail by 227 runs with 8 wickets in hand
Stumps, day four

England were in real trouble at 30/2 after a fiery opening spell from Shoaib Akhtar but Bell (60 not out) and Collingwood (37 not out) steadied the ship. Looks like a draw unless England collapse on the fifth morning, and a 1-0 series win for Pakistan.

Re: Cricket

England 288 and 248 (Bell 92, Collingwood 80; Shoaib Akhtar 5/71, Danish Kaneria 4/52)
Pakistan 636/8 dec.
Pakistan win by an innings and 100 runs
Pakistan win the three Test series 2-0

England lost their last eight wickets in just 69 balls after lunch on the last day as Shoaib and Danish put on a stunning bowling performance. England looked to have hope of a face-saving draw while Collingwood and Bell were still at the crease but then it all fell apart.

Pakistan got their revenge for England's win in the last series in late 2000, and continued their recent improvement. The series showed the importance of Shoaib and Danish to their chances, as well as their world-class batsmen Yousuf, Inzamam and the emerging Salman Butt.

Not a lot went right for England but they have a lot to think about, and the Ashes euphoria will have worn off by now. Expect them to come out firing when they arrive back in the subcontinent for the Tests against India in February.

Now for some one-dayers :sleeping

Re: Cricket

The simple fact is England aren't THAT good. They outplayed us in The Ashes series and well deserved the win but they have a lot of deficiencies. They'll get trounced in India too.

Tset cricket has become very even all of a sudden.

Re: Cricket

Any word on whether SP Jones will be back by the Indian tour? And England really need to find a bona fide wicket-taking spinner.

Re: Cricket

Haven't heard about Jones for a while Ready.

And there is no decent spinner on the horizon either.
