I don't agree with Hayden in that exit strategy. I think he still has a lot to offer, but has just been out of form.

I also think if we come away with these Ashes, we'll see Shane Warne walk away.
Disagre & disagree.Hayden is out of form & is not going to get any better. This will work perfectly for the selectors who will alow Langer to play on & bringing in Jaques. That way they don't have to get rid of both openers at the same time.In my view Warne will be around for awhile yet & why would he retire?

Re: Cricket

I think Langer will get the tap before Hayden

This will be the last test series in Australia for Langer, Gilchrist and McGrath at least.

Disagree,I think the above 3 will continue with Hayden going.

What odds are you offering mb
Langer has only had one good innings thats counted in last 2 years and made noises last year that it may be his last, Gilly gets homesick and wants to go out on top (best way may be to win Ashes back and world cup and then call it a day). McGrath see same as Gilly re going out on top may suit him as well.

Hayden may not be there as well and probably has nothing else to prove but Langer will get the tap first.

Re: Cricket

Symonds and Adam Voges added to the squad, instead of MacGill and anyone else. Adam Voges is a gutsy decisionm, but a great opportunity to see the next generation perform, especially on his home ground. He would be my pick - his left arm orthodox imo is the equal of Symonds' offspin.

Call me Vic biased but how the hell does Symonds get picked again for test duty?

He's shown to have failed during his 10 test career with a batting average of 19.06 (hs 72) and first class average of 42.40. This Pura cup season he's scored a whopping 73 runs at 24.33!

This against Hodges 5 test average of 58 (hs 203) and first class average of 46.00. Plus Hodge scored his double century last season at Perth. This Pura Cup season he's scored over 450 runs at an average of 65

And Hodges injury is only short term. He missed this Ford Ranger cup game so that he could play the Pura cup game and keep in the selectors eye. He's fine to play next week.

Symonds himself said he's flabbergasted at being recalled and I know why! He doesn't deserve it! This is a farcial decision.

Yeah I heard that on FOXsports channel.

Its a pity their website had Mc Gill and Jacques as the inclusions!!

Re: Cricket

Hodge may be scoring runs, but is not in the selector's eyes for the same reason Martyn was under pressure - technical deficiencies. Yes, Hodge is fantastic at Shield level, but so were Blewett, Elliott, Siddons, Bevan etc. Hodge doesn't move his feet outside off stump - he nicks the ball far too often.

Re: Cricket

Hayden with a 84 today against VIC off 118 balls. Symonds with a 4 off 11 balls. Johnson so far 0/32 off 8 overs. Symonds and Johnson pushing for selection for Australia not doing themself any favours there. Cant wait to ssee how voges goes against England this weekend

But why isnt he in the selectors eyes? Everyone keeps going on about this deficiency of Hodges. Well he didnt do tot badly when he got his chance at test level. What batsamn doersnt have a deficiency? Seems the selectors found a reason to drop him and everyone keeps repeating it. All one can do is score runs and that's what he's done. Symonds hasn't. You can't tell me Symonds is a better test batasman that Hodge.

Martin Love is a similar case to Hodge - an unbeaten century in his final Test innings. I've suspected for some time that marketing is a factor in selection - would someone with a passing interest in cricket turn up to the ground (or turn on the TV) to watch Hodge or Love? Probably not, but they might do it for Symonds on the off chance he clicks.

Hodge & Love, 10 Tests between them, 642 runs, no sixes
Symonds, 10 Tests, 286 runs, 11 sixes
Then again this theory may be way off the mark.

So far Symonds' batting and bowling has proven to be a fair way short of Test standard; others should be ahead of him in the queue.

Re: Cricket

Oh Cricket Australia Chairman's XI v England XI  was today and Voges got 71 and 1/33 off 6 overs. CA XI won by 7 wickets with 59 balls to spare.

The England Players in contention for Ashes spots were Panesar, who got 2/63 off 10 overs, Read who got a duck, Mahmood who got 0/49 off 10 and Plunkett who got 0/46 off 7.

Re: Cricket

Gee I hope Voges play, bowls MP a bit (not that I have seen) has anyone else.

Symonds is the worst test cricketer we have had in the last 10 years. I know he can bat & bowl a bit but its no good when he has had limited success with either in 10 chances.

Symond will get the nod. ::)

Now that one of Punting's "mates" has departed he'll surely push to get another one in. It's a guarantee. :p

Oh i dont know bout that,

Re: Cricket

Symonds will get the nod of this other unknown but will need a good performance to retain his spot. The selectors are obsessed with getting Watson into the side.

Funny that they never seemed to push Watson when he played for Tassie. Change your state and you'll make the team. Could you imagine if Tait played for NSW he'd have played 30 tests by now.
