Re: Cricket

I think the much maligned Channel 9 deserves some praise too.  Staying on to watch the players celebrate and the interviews was fantastic.  One negative though - they could have tried to get an interview with Duncan Fletcher  :rofl

nice one, would have loved to see that. Surely the pig headed prick can't pick giles again? Ian Chappell will bust a pooper.

I'd like to see Hayden retire and Langer stay on a season for transition
That's pretty much where I stand TS. Hayden is long gone, I reckon. Langer seems to have a little left in him.

I thought Warney's interview after the game gave the impression he mightn't be around too much longer. He said more than once how he'll miss it all.
I didn't catch that. A bit worrying. :p

It's worth $$$s to him to act like that.

I reckon he'll play as long as he's enjoying it and going by this game he stil is.
He can play almost as long as he wants IMO.

Re: Cricket

glenn mcgrath has to go. i know he took 6 wickets in the first innings in queensland but im certain johnson or tait would have done as weell.
as i said mcgrath is relying on wickets that are doing something but looks hopeless when theres no assistance. if ever a player is past it its mcgrath.
once again lee failed to take wickets surely tait can do his role, clarke can do mcgraths and we bring in johnson who has both pace and an ability to swing the ball. i am absolutely certain these 3 would do a better job than the current players we are useing. the spinner position is also open if you ask me. i would have thought mcgill would have turned the ball a lot in the first innings as well as the second same goes for hogg, unfortunately both these blokes are well into their 30s to.
i also think gilchrist is past it hes certainly skating on thin ice.
to my way of thinking all of hayden martyn and mcgrath need to be given their marching orders asap. jaques cosgrove and johnson simply put are better options.
lastly those asking for 2 spinners at the waca must be fools especially 2 leg spinners.
finally if giles had held that catch in the first innings would it have been different. i reckon we would have been chasing well over 200.
the poms are certainly missing vaughn jones and the guy with depresion ive got a mental block.

My Aussie Team for the next Test:

1. Langer
2. Hayden
3. Ponting (capt)
4. Hussey (v-c)
5. M.Clarke
6. Gilchrist (wk'ing all-rounder)
7. Lee (1st change all-rounder)
8. Warne
9. S.Clark (new ball)
10. McGrath (new ball)
11. McGill
12: Tait/Johnston

Cant' see this team taking the field there Phanto,. There's no way inh hell we can go in with a team with Gilchrist, Lee, Warne, Clark, McGrath and Mcgill batting from 6 - 11. Whilst Gilly hit a fine 64 it was on a plumb track with 350 already on the board. He has been woefuly out of form and it's too big a risk to make him the no. 6 bat.
Lee too is a good tailend batsman but he his not an all rounder and not good enough to bat at 7.  This is potentially a massive tail. Stick to what we've got except for Martyn out and Hodgey in! Hayden will be on thin ice as well. Jacquesy is just waiting!

Brad Hodge you are having a laugh.  :hihi

What are you putting in the water down there?

Hodge is gone, not up to test standard!

Bring in young players!

So who should come in and what state are you in Ghost?

I live in the ACT, so state parochialism is not a factor.

I would like to see Watson if he is fit, gives the team another dimension

Here is what I think the Team should be in the future as we are in a generational change.

The Australian side should be:
Shaun Marsh
Jacques
Ponting
Michael Clarke
Mike Hussey
Shane Watson
Gilchrest
Shane Warne
Shaun Tait
Mitchell Johnson
Clarke

Special Mention [For the future] - Cameron Borgas (SA), Mark Cosgrove (SA) [Needs to be more consistant]
Ben Hilfenhaus (TAS) , Travis Birt  (TAS)

The following players have been great servants but will not be in the side in 2 years:
McGrath
Langer
Haydon.

The selectors have been ruthless in the past and need to continue to be so.

I'm staggered there Ghost! The team wins 2 in a row, one a stupendous win at that, and you want to drop 5 players! Give me a break! Don't worry about what's in the water down here, what's in the dope you're smoking up there? ;)

Suggest you read what I said: "Here is what I think the Team should be in the future as we are in a generational change"

Where did I say this is the team for the Perth test?

You asked me who should be brought in instead of Hodge and I replied Watson if he is fit.

My apologies Ghost. I did re-read your post and yes you are correct. So as Watson isnt fit who should replace Martyn? I still say Hodge.

Re: Cricket

They will probably bring in Phil Jacques and have him @ No 6.

Then they can promote him to opener at a future date without too much distruption to the side.

Hodge should replace Martyn but it just wont happen, also cosgrove should be getting a go soon
Martyn will survive despite his average form.Having Ponting as his best man when he was married helps.

Re: Cricket

Hodge was tried and, despite his runs, the selectors noticed technical deficiencies - he wont play for Australia again. The next generation coming through will get a go after the iminent retirements of Martyn, Gilchrist, McGrath et al. I saw someone mentioned Shaun Marsh as a possible test player - I would float Adam Voges as another WA candidate - he is an awesome bat, very composed and with good leadership skills.

The selectors dropped Hodge after noticing a deficiency (?) in his batting so they may have noticed a rather glaring deficiency in Martyns batting lately? Of course he won't get dropped and he'll a decent scor in Perth.

Re: Cricket

It's a great time to be an Aussie in London. The world beaters are suddenly all hopeless, the old man Warne was finished and now he's a legend again, Panesar is the greatest bowler in the history of the game and if only that idiot Fletcher (who used to be a genius) had picked him, they'd be 2-0 up etc etc.

During last years Ashes if Cab drivers picked up on my accent (not hard) I'd have to spend the trip talking about cricket often getting a pizzling from them. This series hasn't been mentioned yet.

Love it.
