Phantom what about Cam White can bat is a top fieldsman and is becoming a good leg spinner instead of Mcgill . Most are thinking of Watson when it comes to an all rounder but what about a spinning allrounder ..

Cam White needs some 5 wicket hauls, badly.

From what I've seen of junior bowlers, they have to have the inate ability to take wickets from a young age if they are to do it at a more senior level.
Bowlers that take 2-3 wickets a game as juniors become 1-2 wicket takers higher up.
A bowler that regularly takes 5-6 wickets at junior level carries most of that through to the higher level.
Warne is the perfect example.

May develop into a good 1-day A/Rndr for Australia, but there's a long queue of spinners that can't take wickets.

That's what makes McGill so valuable, even though many don't realise it.

Re: Cricket

Cam White will get a go but not yet. I am a fan of him but wait till few players retire e.g. macgil, Martyn then he may get a go.

Watson is doubtful for the 3rd test. Experts saying same team is likley.

Re: Cricket

Gee, Martyn must be doing something very special off the field.

Re: Cricket

IMO we can't have the same team.  Warney needs some spinning support otherwise he'll finish the game in a wheel chair.  I'd have White in for Martyn with Hussey moved up to #4 and Cam batting at 6.  Cam will make as many runs as Marto plus he's an extra spin option.

My Aussie Team for the next Test:

1. Langer
2. Hayden
3. Ponting (capt)
4. Hussey (v-c)
5. M.Clarke
6. Gilchrist (wk'ing all-rounder)
7. Lee (1st change all-rounder)
8. Warne
9. S.Clark (new ball)
10. McGrath (new ball)
11. McGill
12: Tait/Johnston

Cant' see this team taking the field there Phanto,. There's no way inh hell we can go in with a team with Gilchrist, Lee, Warne, Clark, McGrath and Mcgill batting from 6 - 11. Whilst Gilly hit a fine 64 it was on a plumb track with 350 already on the board. He has been woefuly out of form and it's too big a risk to make him the no. 6 bat.
Lee too is a good tailend batsman but he his not an all rounder and not good enough to bat at 7.  This is potentially a massive tail. Stick to what we've got except for Martyn out and Hodgey in! Hayden will be on thin ice as well. Jacquesy is just waiting!

Brad Hodge you are having a laugh.  :hihi

What are you putting in the water down there?

Hodge is gone, not up to test standard!

Bring in young players!

So who should come in and what state are you in Ghost?

I live in the ACT, so state parochialism is not a factor.

I would like to see Watson if he is fit, gives the team another dimension

Here is what I think the Team should be in the future as we are in a generational change.

The Australian side should be:
Shaun Marsh
Jacques
Ponting
Michael Clarke
Mike Hussey
Shane Watson
Gilchrest
Shane Warne
Shaun Tait
Mitchell Johnson
Clarke

Special Mention [For the future] - Cameron Borgas (SA), Mark Cosgrove (SA) [Needs to be more consistant]
Ben Hilfenhaus (TAS) , Travis Birt  (TAS)

The following players have been great servants but will not be in the side in 2 years:
McGrath
Langer
Haydon.

The selectors have been ruthless in the past and need to continue to be so.

Perhaps he does good Barbies
Kind of similar to the way they let Lehman hang around for so long

Re: Cricket

Forget Watson
He is not fit, he will never be fit enough to play 5 days.

Forget him, if he's picked he'll fall apart.

One Day Only.

Would you pick Watson on his batting alone?

Re: Cricket

What's the problem of having blokes that are 29, 30,31 in the side?
Why is the "Pick the Kids" mantra wheeled out?

Surely a side is picked on the likelihood of this is the best side to win this match, at this ground, on this wicket, against this side.

Agree.
If he was on an AFL list, I'd trade him.

No use having players on the list who are never fit when you need them.

Because you need a succession plan, soft tissue injuries occur, we need to bring in young players.

We had no succession plan in the early 80's and when Marsh, Chappell and Lillee all retired we where crap.

If we make changes now we will not go back to those dark days of australian cricket.

Mr Cricket is a brilliant succession plan

Who said Warne was gone, one poor innings and he is written off, never write off a champion.

Washed up, over the hill... 4 for 27 off 26 overs. :ner

Clarke's innings in the first two tests have shown he might make it after all. :)

Agree Michael..the player who's made all the difference to this aging Aussie team is Mike Hussey.

His form since coming into this team since the last Ashes series has been nothing short of amazing.
To be averaging 80 after 13 tests is quite remarkable and should really focus the selectors attention on bringing in other players as Huss and Ponting have been propping up a few of the others.

Bravo "Mr Cricket". :clap

Re: Cricket

what a brilliant win, amazing, Shane Keith does it again. Can't believe anyone would contemplate writing off warnie, will they ever learn? Also can't believe the whinging by the cricket journos about the test being boring, it was classic test cricket, loved it. They must just pluck easy ideas for somethoing to write about so the can get paid often I suppose.

Wonder if it was shawry in the tiger jumper

I'm staggered there Ghost! The team wins 2 in a row, one a stupendous win at that, and you want to drop 5 players! Give me a break! Don't worry about what's in the water down here, what's in the dope you're smoking up there? ;)

Re: Cricket

Martyn should be the only one dropped, but probably won't be. Hayden and/or Langershould retire at the end of the series, but probably won't. I'd like to see Hayden retire and Langer stay on a season for transition, but 2 new openers would be good too. Whatever happened to having a look at your watch, and quitting while you're on top with dignity? I'd like to see one Aussie cricketer do it, just one. Gilchrist might.

Re: Cricket

mb64 exit strategy for Aussies

Hayden-Now
Martyn-Now
Langer-No later than end of 07/08 summer
Gilchrist-End of world cup if he chooses which I think he will.
McGrath & Warne-at least 2 more years

Re: Cricket

I thought Warney's interview after the game gave the impression he mightn't be around too much longer. He said more than once how he'll miss it all.
